Let me start off by saying we were comfortable for the most part. But for a 4-star hotel, this one just didn't measure up. The food in the restaurant was terrible; the beach was rocky, the water seaweed-y; the tennis courts were pockmarked and cracked; there were no screens on the sliding doors which in and of itself is not terrible but since the island has a lot of mosquitos (and apparently a Dengue Fever epidemic) it would be advisable.
The first room we were shown had nothing in the minibar — not even a bottle of water. As my husband said, at a 4-star hotel, the towels should be better than those we have at home. These weren't.
There were people bothering you on the beach selling things. We kind of think that should be discouraged at a 4-star hotel. Lastly, the electricity went out 3 days in a row. While we realize it is not the fault of the hotel per se, the way they handled it was discouraging. No apologies, no concern, they didn't even inform us it was out, they provided no help. Hotels of supposed lesser quality had generators. Why didn't this 4-star hotel?
We stayed last year in Curaçao at a 3-star hotel that was head and shoulders above this one. Bakoua is ust not worth the price at all.
