“Clean, good value, and next to the beach.”

Anse Mitan is a very good place to live. There are a lot of good restaurants nearby and you are at a 20 minutes walking distance from le village créole. The beach is 2 minutes away from the rooms. We stayed in the studio rooms. They are very clean. You have a big balcony overlooking the sea. I would definitely go back there.

“Very nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2011

Stayed during August 2011. Family run hotel. Lady who owns hotel speaks some English, so we could communicate no problem. Nice, spacious rooms. I had room number 8 which overlooked a shared patio over the bay - beautiful view. Room was comfortable and furnishings were nice, and there was air conditioning (but we didn't need to use it). Because we were one floor up, there were no mosquitoes. No TV (but that was fine). Hotel is at the edge of the tourist district and in a nice quiet street - very peaceful and within easy walking distance of the restaurants and about 10 minutes walk from the main tourist area of Pointe du Bout. The beach and the bay are right in front of the hotel. The water is very clear and nice and Caribbean. The hotel is very secure and the owner is always around to buzz you in at night.

The hotel was excellent value at 55 euros a night for a double. Breakfast was included, which included fresh fruit, bread (not toast), different jams, tea and coffee (but don't expect too much at 55 euros). I had a look at the Bambou hotel and I definitely prefer L'auberge. Don't have the buffet meal at Le Bambou - it is truly dreadful (zero stars or less).

Tips:
1. The best island map is the free map from Budget Rent a Car (located in Pointe du Bout).
2. The ferry across to Fort de France does not run on Sundays.
3. Make sure you rent a car to get around - the bus service from Trois Ilets is not very good.
4. Don't come in the first half of August. It rains and rains and the country is full of French holiday makers. The hotels are very full and it is extremely hard to rent a car. I recommend you come in the winter (Jan/Feb) when it rains less.
5. Brush up on your school French - you will need it.
6. Everything is expensive in Martinique (25% more than in France).
7 Best websiye for Trois Ilets is http://www.trois-ilets.com/ it has nots of good maps of the area, with hotel locations.

I recommend this hotel.

“Lovely stay”

We stayed 6 nights at Auberge de L'Anse Mitan and loved it. Our teenagers stayed in a double room in the main building while my wife and I stayed in one of the studio rooms. The view from the balconies of both rooms was excellent - a panorama of the bay with Fort de France in the distance. Madame Lea spoke excellent English and was very helpful during all stages of the booking. The rooms were clean and well appointed. The A/C worked fine and the kitchen in the studio was very helpful in keeping down the costs. This was our first stay in Martinique and we will be back someday. The main town area is about a 10 minute walk, wtih Pont de Bout a little further. There is no good grocery store in either location, but there is a couple of very good places to get the excellent bread and pastries the French are famous for. Dining on the beach was close by, as was the ferry to Fort de France. A car can be rented at several big name (Hertz, Avis, Budget) places in Pont de Bout. They are closed over the mid-day, but open at 8:00 am and again later for turning in the car. The town looked to be a bit quieter than some other beach spots, which was fine with us. The beach was 50 yards from the hotel and offered very entertaining snorkeling. Be very careful of the long spines on the sea urchins. They are everywhere among the rocks.

Dining on in the town was a bit expensive, due to the poor dollar to Euro rate, but every place we went was very good. Try the thin white pizzas at Le Pacho.

We would gladly return again, next time trying to get two suites so the kids could be next door.

Room Tip: The studios are the best.

“Still A Great Value!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2010

It was an AMAZING two day stay at Auberge de L’Anse Mitan during the last week of December, 2010. As you might have read from the below posts, this is a mid-range hotel with all the basics … but not much in ‘bells and whistles’ that a resort would include. Breakfast is optional and there is a refrigerator in the room. Probably most important, however, is the location: The hotel is steps away from Anse Mitan beach and the pier for the ferry back to Fort-de-France. The marina and outdoor mall is about a 10 minute walk away. There is a small Credit Agricole ATM upstairs in the outdoor mall if you’re low on Euros. The staff was incredibly helpful and speaks English (although a basic understanding of French in Martinique goes a long way). Some of the restaurants also can translate English for you … so ask the host/hostess before you sit down. Again, as other posters have noted, Martinique is fairly spread out. Therefore, renting a car (even if only for 2 days) can get you a lot more enjoyment out of your stay on the island. I was arranging transport back to St. Lucia on the Channel Ferry when it was brought to my attention there is a new bus service from Les Trois-Ilets to Le Marin. I did not end up using the bus, however, since the Channel Ferry happened to be full that day (used L’Express Des Isles instead). I’m still giving cleanliness a “4” even though it’s worth noting the building is getting older and cleaning the place must be difficult … it’s a given that tourists like me bring in plenty of sand from the beach. Finally, maybe most importantly, the locals and French transplants are incredibly sociable and helpful. Would like to return soon! – Joe (California, USA).

“Charming little place offering excellent value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 June 2010

I visited the property in May 2009 and had a very good impression. Considering the prices you get an excellent value for money. The Auberge is the first hotel that opened in Martinique. It was completely renovated in 2005 but still kept its cosy, old fashioned style. The bar and the restaurant have the charisma and charm of the 1920th and the rooms are furnished with period furniture, small, without balcony but sympathetic and clean. Behind the original building there is a new block with studios, which are more modern and spacious and have their private balconies. As the owner hardly speaks any language except French it is recommended to book through a tour operator.
