We stayed 6 nights at Auberge de L'Anse Mitan and loved it. Our teenagers stayed in a double room in the main building while my wife and I stayed in one of the studio rooms. The view from the balconies of both rooms was excellent - a panorama of the bay with Fort de France in the distance. Madame Lea spoke excellent English and was very helpful during all stages of the booking. The rooms were clean and well appointed. The A/C worked fine and the kitchen in the studio was very helpful in keeping down the costs. This was our first stay in Martinique and we will be back someday. The main town area is about a 10 minute walk, wtih Pont de Bout a little further. There is no good grocery store in either location, but there is a couple of very good places to get the excellent bread and pastries the French are famous for. Dining on the beach was close by, as was the ferry to Fort de France. A car can be rented at several big name (Hertz, Avis, Budget) places in Pont de Bout. They are closed over the mid-day, but open at 8:00 am and again later for turning in the car. The town looked to be a bit quieter than some other beach spots, which was fine with us. The beach was 50 yards from the hotel and offered very entertaining snorkeling. Be very careful of the long spines on the sea urchins. They are everywhere among the rocks.
Dining on in the town was a bit expensive, due to the poor dollar to Euro rate, but every place we went was very good. Try the thin white pizzas at Le Pacho.
We would gladly return again, next time trying to get two suites so the kids could be next door.
