“Vieques just a Paradise!”

Vieques is unquestionably one of the most beautiful places in the world. A friend and I spent a week in Vieques and was one of the best times we have ever had, we stayed at the Tropical Guest House which has a great location very close to the beautiful beaches, the service was excellent with great staff always willing to help and refer you to the best places around, the hotel was clean, quiet and cozy perfect for a relax vacation. Definitely coming back!

“Horrible Experience”

The tropical guest house is nothing like what we expected. The service was terrible and the room was "prison cell like". It is not close to anything except the ferry which took us 15 minutes to walk to as we escaped this horrible place. We slept with one eye opened and put the metal chair they provided for us in the room up against the door for some sort of security. They have a cheap door knob that looks like it belongs on a bathroom door. We didn't have hot water to bathe in and the knobs on the sink had mold on them. We couldn't get internet access and my boyfriend was unable to make a call with his cell phone. We were unable to get into the lounge because the receptionist wasn't there and when we tried to call her several times we never got a response. we were on our own and at night there were so many guys hanging out across the street sitting at the store front so we didn't leave our room until the next morning. The TV had one English channel and the Spanish channels were snowy. We left the next day to catch the 11AM ferry and still no one was there and I had to put the key in the mailbox. We are getting a refund of 100 dollars. I agreed to charge me for one night but they feel inclined to charge me 39 bucks on top of it because we were there the following morning even though we checked out before check out time but of coarse no one was there. I wont argue with them anymore. My only advice...DON'T GO THERE DON'T STAY THERE. HORRIBLE SERVICE, ITS A TOURIST TRAP AND NOT WORTH YOUR TIME. SPEND YOUR MONEY SOMEWHERE ELSE PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!

“Made me feel like I was a part of a family"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2010

I stayed at Joe Bernard's Tropical Guest House with my girlfriend and was blown away by the hospitality. Joe hooked us up with a cornucopia of things to do while in Vieques and his girlfriend (and receptionist) Maria called every car rental place on the island to find us a car when everything was booked.

The rooms were clean and cozy and were made up daily (more than I can say for the much pricier El Conquistador in Puerto Rico which forgot a day.)

The hotel is conveniently located in Isabel II which has a bunch of great restaurants, bars, and shopping and a 10 minute drive or cab ride to Esperanza which is a beach strip of restaurants/bars with a cool nightlife.

Sure, there's the ol' cock crow in the morning, but with the AC on, I could barely hear it. And to be honest, this is something I heard all over the island and being from the city, kind of added to the charm of being on vacation.

In short, if you are used to being completely pampered and want to stay someplace that could be anywhere, stay at gated community at the W Hotel in Vieques. But if you are going to Vieques to actually experience the island and want a convenient, clean, place to stay with gracious service that's a great value, stay at The Tropical Guest House.

“Our new home away from home!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2010

Staying at the Tropical Guest House on Vieques Island was the highlight of our vacation in Puerto Rico! Maria and Joseph, the owners were the most wonderful hosts I have ever met while staying at various B&B's and Guest houses around the world. They made sure our stay was convenient and comfortable. They welcomed our group and gave us all the information and tools to fully enjoy the island. The staff treated us like ol friends of the family. If you are looking for posh or luxury resort-style rooms, this is not for you but if you enjoy excellent service with a homey feel, this is your place. We were able to pick up fresh lobsters at the pier and the owners invited us to use there kitchen to prepare our meal. I would high recommend the Tropical Guest House to any carefree travelers that are on a budget but want to feel safe and at home. Thanks a bunch Maria & Jospeh! We plan to see you next year!!!

“Quiet, nothing else.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 March 2010

Based on its website information I booked thier 4 bed room for 3 nights, I traveled with my 20 year old twins. For some reason I failed to connect the dots, Tropical is a sleep over guest house, not a motel nor a hotel. It is waking distance to Isabel II, the island's only village. But you need a publico car to get there with your luggage the first time ($ 3.00 x person max.). Vieques is much poorer than Pto Rico's main island, and this has to be taken into account or better stay in a real hotel somewhere else. Vieques beaches are spendid specially in Esperansa (same publico fare). Tropical has no facilities, it is rustic, no pool, it is rustic, quiet, it is rustic, no restaurant, it is rustic...get it?! Good people, they wait for you and will call if out on errants, room are clean but extremelly basic. No breakfast on site, but many locations close by, Walking distance to the Spanish 1800's fortification.
