“Couldn't have been better”

My girlfriend and I spent 5 nights at Villa Coral and it was just about as perfect as a stay on Vieques could be. The building is very nice and the room was spacious and clean, complete with a mini fridge and coffee machine (both of which we made a lot of use of). The terrace was really nice to sit out on in the morning, with plenty of comfortable chairs, a hammock, board games and free wifi. The massive roof deck was great for looking at the stars that we don't really get to see at home in Brooklyn. And then of course, there were the hostesses, Mireya & Annette. They were so kind and helpful, making some great recommendations for restaurants and beaches on the island. They even drove by us one night walking back from the Malecón (the promenade in Esperanza) and gave us a ride back to the house (they live only a couple blocks away). For three of our five nights there we rented a car, which was great to drive to the various beaches out of walking distance (Orchid was our favorite for laying around, Navio and Red Beach our favorites for swimming, and Green Beach had some amazing reefs for snorkeling) and restaurants (like Next Course - delicious). However, for the two days we didn't have a car there was still plenty to do within walking distance of Villa Coral– Sun Bay, Black Sand Beach, the Bio bay tours, restaurants, etc. It's only about a 8-10 minute walk down ti the Malecón and a 20-30 minute walk to Sun Bay (not our favorite beach on the island, but still, it's the Caribbean so can't really complain). If you're planning on making the trip to Vieques (which you should soon, because it's only a matter of time before it really blows up and becomes a top, crowded Caribbean destination) I can't more highly recommend Villa Coral.

One last thing– I rated sleep quality 4 instead of 5 because if those annoying roosters (which seem to be all over the island). Not really the fault of Villa Coral, of course, but nonetheless woke me up a little earlier than I would have liked.

“Wonderful accomodations just outside Esperanza!”

My husband and I totally enjoyed this guesthouse! Super clean, great people who work here. They really made our stay perfect. Because it was only 2 of us, they offered us a deal on the 2-bedroom villa which made our stay even more enjoyable, mainly because we could make breakfast everyday and keep all of our beach treats for the week in the fridge. The guesthouse has a small back patio and an excellent roof top deck for relaxing. The neighborhood Siamese kitty "Mishu" greets you in the morning (very sweet!). Just a short hike up the hill from the Malecon makes this guesthouse #1 in our books. Will definitely return!!

“Coralina Cottage-Vieques”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

My husband and I stayed in the Coralina Cottage from 12/24-12/30 2011. The cottage is practically brand new. The space is absolutely perfect for a couple. We enjoyed our coffee on the terrace in the morning and listening to the frogs peep in the evenings. The malecon is such a quick walk and conveniently steep on the walk back from dinners to help burn a few of the many calories we consumed! The bed is extremely comfortable and I was so happy to find a hairdryer in the cottage, bonus!
Our main reason visiting the island was to explore the beaches. The amenites in the cottage for the beach were excellent, especially the beach chairs (they convert into backpacks) and the noodle (which is great for snorkeling).
The wireless worked perfectly and was great to have as I had a day of work to do during vacation. Mireya & Annette were wonderfully helpful and accomodating hosts. We loved our stay at the Coralina Cottage. Thanks for the hospitality!

“Amazing Hosts in Minimal Surroundings”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

The hosts of the property truly went above and beyond. We traveled to the island during the peak holiday time and were having a very difficult time renting a car. Mireya & Annette were able to track down a car for us and set up the rental. The guesthouse is about a 10 minute walk to the Malecon which is the one of the two main towns on the island. You have to walk through a residential area, but we felt safe. The room itself is very simple, no TV, clock, radio, or tub. The room was cleaned and refreshed everyday and towels were replaced every 3rd day. Beach chairs, towels, and a cooler were provided which was really wonderful. The rate is very good especially during high season, and you basically get what you pay for. The only negative is that the guesthouse is right next to a house that keeps a bunch of roosters which make noise constantly and the bed is quite hard. The roof is a nice added amenity where you can bring some wine and enjoy the sunset.

It is important to have a car on the island in order to get to the beaches and the other town. Taxi service is readily available for going out to dinner etc. Beaches are truly special, clean, and stunning. Try and go to beaches at the end of the reserve for more privacy and less crowds. All and all we had a lovely, low key time on this beautiful island.

At Villa Coral Guesthouse we strive to provide the best accommodations within an incredibly accessible rate! Your review was very positive, yet you only gave us three stars! Our goal is for every visitor to feel as if they chose a great place within our category of ''guesthouse''. We certainly are not a hotel or resort! Please note that the roosters are two doors down (not next door) and if you are a light sleeper then you will hear them. Our rooms do have air conditioning- light sleepers..... please close your windows at night and use the a/c. You should sleep like a baby.
