In November of 2006 my entire crew for a photo shoot stayed at Violet's, "Enchanted Garden Inn." Violet went over and above the call of duty and played "House Mom." to our crew. She could be seen loading and unloading the dish washer at times or telling us where to find something on the island or calling friends to try and find us a prop we needed or even a doctor! Her Inn had all the amenities that we required, was spacious with enough beds for us, and could accomodate our reality-show-photo-shoot-crazyness....
I highly recommend the Enchanted Garden for larger families and groups or renting the studio apartment for the solo traveler or couple. I've now stayed at 4 different places on Vieques. I can confidently say that the price and service you get from Violet is amazing. (The beds are really comfy too!) If you are a couple, looking for a super high end, romantic, pool side or quiet ocean side getaway, the Enchanted Garden is not this type of vaccation. (This is not a criticism, just an observation for those of you looking to crack a bottle of wine and listen to the ocean or take a midnight dip in a pool. And you can still crack that bottle of wine on the patio at Enchanted Garden!) There are those places on the Island, but note that most of those places do not accept children. If you've done your reading, you know that Vieques is a place like no other, a true caribbean experience, off the beaten path. There are no "Club-Meds" here! But there are grocery stores with bars in them as you walk in! (That's right folks, have a beer before you pick up those "Cherios!" ) There are locals riding bare back down the street and beaches only accessible by 4-wheel drive vehicles. At the "Enchanted Garden," you will hear frogs outside your windows at night. You will have everything you need for your family or group, at a great price! Do me a favor, just keep Vieques, "Our little Secret." But do call Violet and see if she has room for you!
