“Shabby”

We stayed at The Crow's Nest during the holiday period, December 2011. However, after just one night we decided to move on as the standard of accommodation fell well below our expectations.

Our family room had poor quality, tired, old furniture and very uncomfortable beds. The ageing air conditioner was incredibly noisy and when switched off we were disturbed by the other noisy units in the surrounding rooms and restaurant.

The tiny bathroom had an ancient suite with a blocked shower head. The toilet was so close to the sink that it wasn't possible to stand properly at the sink or open the cupboard door beneath.

There was evidence of rodent infestation - large droppings on the windowsill and gnaw marks - which led us to re-name the hotel 'The Rat's Nest'.

On the positive side, the rooms and bedding were quite clean (aside from the droppings). There is a pool with excellent views over the garden and surrounding countryside. The restaurant seemed popular and was busy in the evening. There was free wifi - which we used to find another hotel!

The Crow's Nest is budget-style accommodation but not at a budget price.  We expected a lot better for the money.

“small, secluded, quiet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2011

This small, secluded and quiet hotel (inn) is located on a hill about 12 to 15 minutes from the island ferry terminal. Once you get there the hotel lobby is located right in front of it. The hotel employees were nice and welcoming. We had a few questions from the island beaches and they where very kind to answer them. We stayed in the second floor on a room with balcony. It was pretty clean, although it could've been cleaner. We were there for 3 nights and had planed to go to the beach, but decided to stay at the pool almost every day. It as so relaxing!

A few places that we went to where:

The Bioluminescent Bay (a most see only during the night), about 10 to 15 minutes from the hotel.

The "Fortin Conde de Mirasol", about 12 minutes away.

"Red Beach". Now, it's used to be very difficult to get to "Red Beach", but now its a lot better, and it will take you about 20 minutes to get there. But believe me it's worth it!

Oh, and one last thing. The view that we got of the island from this hotel was beautiful.

“So sad to see it's decline...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2011

I have always had fond memories of the Crow's Nest as a quaint, serene, and affordable place to stay in Vieques. I had stayed there three times previous to my most recent trip in July.

I was very to sad to see that it was no longer maintained and serviced like it once was. The once lush foliage is now dead. The buildings are chipping paint and wood is rotting. The yummy breakfast of fresh juice, tropical fruit and pastries once was served on the second floor of an open deck with an almost tree-house feel, but now it is served in cheap plastic chairs next to the pool consisting of only cereal, bread, and concentrated juice. We brought our own mangos to breakfast the next day.

Service once was stellar and attentive-- coolers, beach chairs, snorkeling equipment was always available. Now, you have to scramble to scrounge up your own chairs and share the one mask that they have left. The front desk used to arrange the bio tours and cars before arriving, but now that is all left to the guest.

I had raved about how wonderful it once was, but upon arrival, I realized things had changed. I was embarrassed bringing my boyfriend and best friend there.

We discovered that it has been for sale for four years, and I suppose the owners decided to no longer invest in its upkeep and service. It's worth $50 a night, but sadly, we paid $125 as we did not know that it declined so much.

I really did love this place once, but sadly it is not what it once was...

“Wonderful, relaxing stay, will certainly return!”

I just came back from my yearly summer vacation, which for the last five years I've spent at The Crow's Nest in Vieques. The Front Desk staff is as friendly and accomodating as ever, making us up-to-date about the new restaurants and places to visit. It was raining most of the time, which was a bummer. Rain brings the mosquitoes out, it doesn't matter where you are. You should see San Juan, where I live! At any rate, the Crow's Nest's gardens were flush with flowers, making the grounds as lovely as I remember them. The cleaning staff is extremely accomodating, but my room was spotless. The only negative thing I saw was the pool. It looks as if it the water is dirty, but the head of maintenance explained that they are just spots and that the water is clean, which indeed it was. He explained that plans are to resurface the pool but he has to wait until the summer is over, otherwise there would be riots from the guests who come every year. The location of the hotel, smack in the center of the island, is perfect for exploring, and the price can't be beat. I will keep coming as long as they let me!

Room Tip: A simple call will get you the best room.
