Just one of my favorite hotels anywhere...two years running we've gotten the same room with the amazing view of the water and countryside. The pool is open all night. Plenty of cold beer in the lobby to enjoy, just keep your own tab on the little notebook. The Heinekens come in 8.5 oz cans, they look like little energy drinks! But they're not.
Everyone who works there is very kind and helpful, whether you need help getting a Jeep in the height of tourist season or learning the finer points of local dialect. Remember--in Puerto Rico if you want orange juice it's "jugo de china". Naranja, I'm told, is considered something completely different but very healthy.
Breakfast is a very filling choice of the usual eggs, meat, bread, fruit, or a daily special. I always got the special--quiche, burrito, etc. Spicy hash browns every time, too. Coffee's awesome. Didn't try the to-go lunches they make, I did admire the presentation in the little soft coolers.
The room comes with a lot of the stuff you need to chill at the beach--2 chairs, towels, a cooler that can fit maybe a dozen of those pony beer cans. If you wander near the ice machine you might find an umbrella to borrow, too. Pile all that in your Jeep, hit the colmado (convenience store) for supplies and it's beach time.
The room had good AC and ceiling fan. The door to the toilet and shower is not the most private in the world. Bed's comfy, though. Great water pressure. The room size is very adequate, but I saw some people sprung for the suites, which really looked cool.
The HC is just a short drive to Esperanza, where we did our dining and drinking most nights.
The owners of the HC have a great big sheepdog named Zac. Zac is banned from the dining area according to the sign, but he turns up elsewhere on the grounds and is sweet as could be.
All this greatness comes at a cost, especially in tourist season. The rates are pretty high, though they do include breakfast, which retails like $15 to civilians. You can find deals for this place sometimes, especially off-season. Can't wait to go back!
