“Another great stay in a great spot!”

Just one of my favorite hotels anywhere...two years running we've gotten the same room with the amazing view of the water and countryside. The pool is open all night. Plenty of cold beer in the lobby to enjoy, just keep your own tab on the little notebook. The Heinekens come in 8.5 oz cans, they look like little energy drinks! But they're not.

Everyone who works there is very kind and helpful, whether you need help getting a Jeep in the height of tourist season or learning the finer points of local dialect. Remember--in Puerto Rico if you want orange juice it's "jugo de china". Naranja, I'm told, is considered something completely different but very healthy.

Breakfast is a very filling choice of the usual eggs, meat, bread, fruit, or a daily special. I always got the special--quiche, burrito, etc. Spicy hash browns every time, too. Coffee's awesome. Didn't try the to-go lunches they make, I did admire the presentation in the little soft coolers.

The room comes with a lot of the stuff you need to chill at the beach--2 chairs, towels, a cooler that can fit maybe a dozen of those pony beer cans. If you wander near the ice machine you might find an umbrella to borrow, too. Pile all that in your Jeep, hit the colmado (convenience store) for supplies and it's beach time.

The room had good AC and ceiling fan. The door to the toilet and shower is not the most private in the world. Bed's comfy, though. Great water pressure. The room size is very adequate, but I saw some people sprung for the suites, which really looked cool.

The HC is just a short drive to Esperanza, where we did our dining and drinking most nights.

The owners of the HC have a great big sheepdog named Zac. Zac is banned from the dining area according to the sign, but he turns up elsewhere on the grounds and is sweet as could be.

All this greatness comes at a cost, especially in tourist season. The rates are pretty high, though they do include breakfast, which retails like $15 to civilians. You can find deals for this place sometimes, especially off-season. Can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Ask for a room that overlooks the water.

“Our perfect week in Vieques”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

It's a terrible conflict to want, on one hand, to share the excitement of finding a most excellent hotel in a magnificent place, while on the other hand, worrying that there will be a stampede and we'll never be able to get another reservation...but since Vieques isn't all that easy to get to, there will (we hope) be room for us at the Hacienda Tamarindo.
The highest praise we can give to a vacation spot is - wish we could stay another week - and this lovely hotel earns it.
If you are looking for a lovely, low key and non-glitzy place to spend your vacation, look no further. Our hosts Linda and Burr attended to our every need. Delicious breakfasts, beautiful views and just out of the way enough for a week of peace and quiet.
Make sure to book early and to reserve a jeep at the same time. Take care to bring bug spray if you are out after dusk - the sand flees at the beach are voracious.
Vieques is not for everybody. We kept referring to it as the anti-St Barths. I wouldn't go there with kids - many flights and not enough for them to do.

“Heavenly”

The Hacienda was a wonderful home base for our 5 day exploration of Vieques. It's in a great location. Only a short drive to Esperanza where you will find a few decent restaurants. And from Esperanza it's a hop, skip, and a jump to Sun Beach- one of Vieques many fabulous beaches. All of the staff from the front desk to the kitchen staff were lovely. Helpful and accommodating even in a crisis (there was an island wide black out while we were there but because of the Hacienda's generator we weren't effected). The owners, Linda and Burr and their dog, Zach, were a warm presence. We did, however, get a little tired of the rather boring breakfast. It was tasty but it could use a little more creativity. We loved the box lunches in the knapsacks. Once we had our knapsacks, beach chairs, towels and coolers stocked with water (all courtesy of the Hacienda) we were off for the day. The beaches are amazing. You don't want to leave at the end of the day -let alone the end of your vacation!

“The Great Escape!”

We found Hacienda Tamarindo online when we planned a getaway to Puerto Rico and wanted an "eco-adventure" on the world famous Bioluminescent Bay there on Vieques. The island vibe is totally laid back. No hassle, no pressure, no night life --but ohhhh the total relaxation on an easy going little island only 20 mins. via Cape Air. Hacienda Tamarindo has an upscale, friendly "flip-flops" all day kind of atmosphere. A Tamarindo tree grows through the roof in the tasteful, eclectic lobby. Their big, low-key bear of a dog lays around the place but never bothers anyone. Delicious breakfasts prepared for us on the outdoor tiled veranda and a do-it-yourself bar downstairs in the living room area. Spectacular breeze off the ocean + awesome view = the best getaway we've ever had for total relaxation!!

“Great Place for Destination Wedding!”

We had such a beautiful, laid back, and relaxing stay at the Hacienda Tamarindo for our friends wedding. The place has such charm with beautiful views of the ocean. The staff was lovely on all levels. The breakfast was good (especially the oatmeal and I was never a huge fan until I had it here- wish I got the recipe). They also had a great juice selection (passion, tamarindo, etc). There were beach chairs, beach towels, and even a cooler in our room to use for the beaches which was great since the beaches are so secluded. If you dont feel like going to the beach the hammock and pool was a great place to relax. I would definitely recommend this place for a laid back destination wedding. My friends got married on a beach near by and then had an amazing, beautiful reception/party at the Hacienda after the cermony. A little side note: Please remember this is the carribean and there are going to be bugs and little critters that may get into your room. Skin so soft worked the best for me to keep the bites away and any bites that were obtained were well worth it :)
