We have stayed at some wonderful resorts throughout the Caribbean but the W was superlative! The property is absolutely gorgeous with beautiful plantings of grasses, etc. The staff was warm, friendly and extemely helpful - no "attitude" on this team. Food was delicious! (Note, we were told that the relationship with Alain Ducasse, the famous chef who created the menu, is about to end. However, if they keep the kitchen staff, I wouldn't worry. For example, breakfast was not "Alain" and everything was out of this world.). We were also surprised at how comfortable the rooms, restaurant and lounges were. The photos make it look a little too cool and hip for comfort but that was not at all the case. The beach was a protected cove which makes it great for swimming but not good if you like long walks on the beach. Only negative was the music that is constantly piped in all over the property - including the pool and beach. It drove us nuts! Coming from NYC all we wanted was some peace and quiet. The only sound we wanted to hear was the ocean! Why do I need to be forced to listen to the W's music? That's what the iPod is for - so everyone can listen to the music they want to hear. Or, for some of us, nothing at all - but the ocean. We would definitely go to this resort again - but would bring ear plugs.

This resort was filled with some truly wonderful people--both employees and guests.

The pool area is gorgeous and it's easy to lose an entire day of a vacation just lounging around.

Prices are comparable to New York City prices, so it wasn't a shock for me like it is for some.

The staff are all knowledgeable about the area, and when asked, will give you hints about the most cost-effective ways to spend your time and money while vacationing on Vieques.

I will definitely be back.

I am a huge fan of the W brand (only having experienced it in large cities) and went to Vieques mainly to have a W resort experience. First the positives - our room was spacious and nice (although a bit more eclectic than I would expect of the W). The lobby was also beautiful, and a nice place to lounge with a drink at night after dinner.

Now the negatives - the food options were SO sparse. The lunch menu had very few items on it.. seriously, i'm talking like 6 items. When I go to a resort, I generally want to laze about the pool all day and have lunch there. By the second day I was already bored with the lunch menu. Another big food related problem - breakfast was only served until 11. Maybe not a problem for most, but due to my jetlag and generally being on vacation mode... I didnt want to wake up and rush to breakfast. The result: Even if you get to the restaurant at 11:15AM, breakfast no longer offered. For a hotel that talks a big game about Whatever, Whenever... the fact that I can't have an omlette when I want one is a bit ridiculous. I know all hotels have their rules, but if you make a huge deal about Whatever, Whenever, you should be able to back it up when someone requests something as simple as an egg and some toast. The little market cafe they have had breakfast sandwiches but they were greasy and the service there was very poor. I ordered a sandwich at the bar one day and asked for it without Mayonnaise and was told they couldnt do it.... awesome. So to sum it up, this experience totally put me off W Resorts. I know theyre trying to be chic and trendy by having one restaurant and limited food items... but the whole thing just didnt work. I wish I had gone to another island (with nicer beaches... I guess I didnt mention the beach wasnt great, I was too busy talking about food!). Lesson learned!

We went to the W vieques last summer and I must say we had a great experience there.
Our room was very spacious and clean, and we had a nice balcony with a view directly on the ocean. The bed was very comfortable ( as in every W we've been at)

The beaches are on the small side, but we did not have a problem with that at all. The pool area was great as well.

The only thing we did not like too much was the food at their restaurant...it was really just ok. We did rent a car for 3 of the 5 days we were there and we much preferred going to eat outside the resort. We actually found a little restaurant that had amazing food.

We did the biobay tour...it was quite an experience. We actually loved it. The only thing is the person sent by the hotel to pick us up after we were done was almost 40 minutes late. And we were just all waiting outside in the dark in the middle of the island. ( didnt love that part)

We had a great time at the W vieques, and it's a great place to go if you want a relaxing vacations away from the big resorts...I do recommend you rent a car while you are there to explore other beaches on the island, and eat at other restaurants.
