Not sure where the other complaints are coming from...
This hotel is amazing. Stayed in the Colonial decor 40' by 30' room w 1 king bed. The room has 3 sets of french doors (incl small balcony), 20' cielings, glass walk in shower, etc. The area can be a little dicey, but the tourist police all most out number the locals so there's no need for worry. Clubs, dance classes, museums abound, and a trip to the boardwalk is nice. If you golf the Hilton is 10 minutes away (hope u can play in the wind). The Ramasa restaurant (Lola) can't be beat, the filet mignon / coconut flan has to be eaten. Book through Expidia for $88 /n (must book 1 day at a time for disc.)

If quiet, and beach is what you want, steer clear of this hotel; this is in the heart of Ponce, and I was staying here for business. So be aware, rush hour can be intense, therefore you may need to add some time if you have a distance to travel. This place is very clean, very new, expertly staffed, and has awesome rooms. Room 407 is a fantastic top floor suite with wrap around deck, if you are going for a romantic trip I would suggest requesting it (I'm not sure how I ended up in it). The hotel restaurant, Lola, is very good, and Archipielago is across the square. Ponce is a metropolitan city, so it is loud and busy. Also the cathedral in the square can wake you up in the morning; I would suggest a room as far West within the building they can give you. Be aware that Monday and Tuesday are the unofficial weekend for the entertainment industry in the town, so many restaurants, many bars, and some shops will all be closed for those days. The complementary breakfast is bare bones, but adequate, and the coffee does the trick. I don't know much about the nightlife around, but the two bars near the hotel I passed on the way back after a long day were packed. There is also valet parking with an entrance on the North end of the building. If valet is not your thing (I hate it), you can circumvent the process by finding the garage by entering from the alley in the West end of the building (off of Calle Mendez Vigo (a one way road bearing only north), and just before you get to Calle Reina Isabel).

I do not know what this place costs, however I would come back here on my own dime with my wife, regardless of cost for a night. I say only for a night because the beaches in the South are not great, and I am not particularly into city life, but this is worth experiencing once in a while.

By the way, the swimming pool is a joke, it is literally 7ft by 12ft, and 4ft deep. Serioulsy, they should just take it out and add more outdoor seating for Lola.

This beautifully renovated hotel has a bar in the main building centrally located to the guest rooms, and was so loud it kept us up until at least 2am. We are from the city and used to noise. The noise outside was not the problem, just the noise from the bar itself. Great hotel if you're not planning to sleep until at least 2am.

1. We got there at 2:00. Check-in is at 3:00. We were not allowed to check in early, though they did not appear to be busy.
2. We asked if they could hold our luggage until check-in time and were told they would not.
3. There is supposed to be high-speed internet available. I don't know how it is in the old section (which the desk said has wireless), but the new section (which has plug-in access) is NOT high-speed. It was slower than dial-up. After waiting 15 minutes for pages to load, I gave up.
4. The TV remote box didn't work.
5. The shower water alternates from steaming to freezing every minute or so.
6. We were given a pouch of coffee with no filter.
7. The bar had good drinks and appetizers.
