“One Can do Better”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

Pros: Great Location near the corner where Magdalena meets Ashford.
Hot water in bathroom. The remote for TV is given to you at the front desk.
Cons: Very sparse room. Very uncomfortable bed that is hard, bouncy and squeeks. Phone did not work. AC outlets coming oiut of the walls. Section of ceiling over bed was covered with some acoustic tile taped on with masking tape and starting to sag. Seemed like the people above would end up in our bed at some point during the night. Had to borrow hair dryer from front desk. Noisy narrow hallway outside the rooms. They charge an extra $3 per day that you pay when you leave, not included in the room rate.

“you could pay more and get less”

we stayed @ la consulat both before and after our cruise allowing us a bit of extra time to see san juan.(don,t blow through san juan if you have xtra time,it is an amazing city with lots to see).after due diligence,we decided apon this site and we were happy with this hotel.it is nothing fancy(a little spartan),but the rooms are clean and we found the staff warm and helpful.the main reason we stayed here was the location(15 minutes to the airport, old san juan, and the cruise terminal plus 3 blocks to condado beach and restaurants and night life.)the area seemed safe(swarming with police)and there is a nice little pool out back to sit around and have your favorite beverage.our room came with a little deck.
the comments about the shower temp. are valid(lukewarm the first day but hot the next?)
the people we travelled with stayed @ the howard johnsons last time they were through and said they paid more and the place was falling apart.this place was not fancy but it was clean and safe.
we booked it on priceline and got what we thouht to be a good deal.

Room Tip: we paid 5 dollars extra for a room with a small patio with 2 lougers.

“A Great little Hotel in a Fantastic Location :)”

Arrived at Le Consulat after a stressful delayed pair of flights from the UK and was immediately welcomed by the recptionist who had obviously stayed at his post waiting for our arrival. (24 hour receptions in small hotels are sometimes hard to come by!)

Check in was smooth and immediately got the keys to the room. It was well past midnight and we were clearly shattered.

The room itself was adequate. Very Clean, no real views to talk about but had everything we wanted, except for perhaps a minibar! We were told on arrival that we would need to pay for the safe if we used it, but that would be a minimal charge on checkout, but that was all fine.

Air Con was amazing! very chilled in the room and even though we arrived in the rain, it was well received as we opened the door.

Well the hotel itself doesnt have great amenities. yes it has a (tiny) pool, but why would you want to stay around that when the amazing condado beach is only 100metres away! Every sort of food is available within a ten minute walk so if you are craving a bit of American deep fried convenience or some traditional snacks then it is all laid out for you. Many bars also within a short stroll.

Only 20 minutes on the bus for only 0.75dollars to old San Juan also - don't bother getting a cab for 20 dollars!

All in all a great convenient hotel. Not 3 or 4 or 5 star - but perfect for what you get!!!

“Could be MUCH better!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

This is a cute small hotel but certainly does have its issues. I could not use my cell phone in the hotel at all as I never was able to get a signal. I have T-Mobile and the front desk girl insisited that she too had T-Mobile and she said it was fine. I see other people who reviewed had this issue also. the breakfast is pretty bad. Packaged type muffins you get at Walgreens. They could make it 100% better by puttig some effort into the breakfast and making some GREAT cookies or something. That way if it is something from the island then the guests will rave about them instead of grumbling about crappy pre packaged junk. (get my point???) The desk cleck was partying with her friends in the lobby one night whne I came home late. The front door was locked and I had to show ID to prove I was a guest. Smelled WEED being smoked on several occasions at night. Shower lacked hot water. TV is not able to get multiple cable stations like other hotels. Pool is small but ok. They could/should offer something to make people want to return to the place. It just ok for the price but for the same proice yo can stay at a better place. Stayed at the Radisson for about teh same on another trip and had a room with balcony and free breakfast buffet daily.

Room Tip: Do not stay on floor 1.

“Understaffed, should have stayed else where”

The place doesn't look bad, but honestly it seems like there is only one employee taking care of the entire building. my room didn't have any hot water so i had to take a nice cold shower and it seemed like the towels in the bathroom were dirty. The continental breakfast they offered...was sad cereal...yup plain cereal with nothing no even milk...

*the only good thing about the hotel was the front desk girl she was really lovely and caring other than that please stay away from this place
