“NOT AS PRETTY AS IT LOOKS ON LINE!”

Although our stay was not too bad at the Tu Casa Boutique Hotel I was
a little disappointed when I arrived because the hotel is not a nice
as it looks on line. Tu Casa is advertised on line as a boutique hotel
ideal for business travelers. I must disagree. First of all, the
hotel (or guest house) is located in a residential neighborhood in
which the hotel is very hard to find. The over-all appearance of the
hotel is okay, but I was not too satisfied with our room. I stayed in room
# 9 right by the pool and the bar. Our room was very clean but smelled
like mildew. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND NOT TO STAY IN THAT ROOM, mainly
because of its location. While taking a shower, we could see the feet of
the people seating at a bench outside by the pool. There were people
hanging out right by our door until 4 or 5 in the morning drinking and
celebrating out very loud. The Security Guard was drinking right with
them! Sleeping was impossible, so we decided to get up and visit a near by
(walking distance) club. We came back after 4:00 AM and the people was
still drinking and swimming right outside of our room. We were too
tired to notice when the party ended. One of the reasons why we chose
that guest house was because the convenience of having a bar on site; we
came to find out that the bar has been closed for months due to several
complaints from the neighbors, so every time we wanted a drink, we had
to pay $15 for a cab ride.

If it wasn't for the super friendly and helpful staff, our stay could
have gone bad. All the receptionists, the breakfast ladies and the
entire staff were extremely friendly to us. I would say it was worth the
$79 bucks per night that we paid.

“Terrible”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2005

We came to Puerto Rico on a bussines trip for more than three weeks and ......This hotel is terrible and we are checking out now! And this is why: the water pressure is horrible you can bearly take a shower; there is no hot water; the shower is dirty; the toilet broke and since there is nobody for emergency calls we had to fix it ourselves (and we are not plumbers); the water started coming out muddy at certain point in our stay there; the A/C does not have the capacity to cool the room so you can imagine the heat in the middle of July. The area where tu casa is is not the best in PR so loud music and people with no manners and/or consideration live near by. The bar is always closed. There is no restaurant. The pool is dirty. I'm from Puerto Rico and I love my island... But if you want to have a good time, relax and enjoy DO NOT CONSIDER STAYING AT TU CASA!!!! It looks pretty but one night there makes you want to not come back to visit the Island..

“Beware Tu Casa!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 June 2004

I had read the reviews here before we went to PR, but figured that the experience the other reviewers had was because they went in high season. Well, we just got back from San Juan and had a wonderful time only because we turned around what could have been a horrendous vacation. We had booked a "suite" with a "terrace with an ocean view" at Tu Casa in Ocean Park. We walked into our one dingy room and walked out onto our "terrace" and when we looked past several air conditioning units, two parking lots, a running track and a street, lo and behold! there in the distance was the ocean. The hotel is located at the very end of Ocean Park just inside the gates in a seedy neighborhood surrounded by noisy, unsightly construction projects. The beach in that section is rundown and filthy with broken glass, etc. We had been totally mislead by the people at the hotel as well as the latest Frommers book, which listed it as a "Find". The only thing we had to "find" was a new hotel, which we did. Luckily, there was a cancellation at Numero Uno two days into our stay. That hotel is lovely and the staff is friendly and helpful. It seems like Frommer's didn't visit Tu Casa before reviewing it. This is certainly no "boutique hotel" as it had been described. Stay away.

“I agree with *Not worth your money* and time”

I agree with the other persons comments 100%. My husband and I also stayed there 11/03 and our room was right at the main entrance near the pool and bar. I would give some advise to the owner make that room a supply room. Not for your guess to sleep! We had on the first night a bunch of party goers right out side our door singing untill after midnight. the next day we went out for breakfast and when we got back. They were decorating the erea for a wedding. The bride and grooms table and cake table were right in front fo door!! We had to go between them to get into our room!!! I went to complain to the manager. When he saw me he knew what I was going to say. He gave us a new room (upgraded!!!!) you think!!! We could still here the noise!!!! not worth the money. other places to go. RUNNN!!!!

“Not worth the money”

Well on my last visit to Puerto Rico I stayed at a place called the windchimes inn which was great. While I was there I saw Tu Casa boutique hotel. So on this visit I decided to stay here. What a mistake that was. Though it is a beautiful place the staff was very unfriendly and rude. The area for one is not that great..... At night there are people who hang out till about 4-5 a.m. listening to music right outside. So if you want to relax ... this is not the place to be. There is no sundeck or even any beach chairs to lay on to get a tan. The pool is right at the entrance along with the bar that is not open. When you check in they give all sorts of papers to sign for example if you do not return your beach towel they charge you $25 per towel mind you it is a simple towel that you can get at any k-mart for $5.99. Also the restaurant that they advertise online is closed. The keys they give you do not work. The first night I was there I went out and when I came back the key they had given me did not work so I rang the bell for about 1 hour before another guest came and opened the door for me. That is when I discovered that after 8 p.m. everyone in the hotel leaves. NO ONE IS THERE OVERNIGHT NOR IS THERE ANY SECURITY. When I finally got in that night I discovered there were other guest that had problems. One guest couldn't get into their room. The lock came out of the door and the other key they had given them did not work. Though the rooms are a decent size how can you enjoy them if you can't even get into them. The showers are horrible. There is no water pressure what so ever and the toilet clogs. The shower curtains are held up by tension rods that fall. The hotel has no emergency number just in case of an emergency. Needless to say I checked out in the morning. When I told the young lady about the promblem we had and some other guest had she looked at me as if I had eight heads and did not apologize .... she did absolutly nothing. As far as for the other guest that I know of about 3 groups checked out the next day as well. Next time i'll be going back to the windchimes inn. The staff there is wonderful, the keys work, there are people there 24/7, their bar is open and the toilets don't clog. atwindchimesinn this is the place to stay. TU CASA THANKS FOR NOTHING.
