Flying in the day before our cruise, we found Hotel Milano to be the perfect place to stay. Located in the heart of old city, you are within walking distance of everything but a beach. There are fabulous restaurants, shopping (Marshall's is close if you've forgotten anything), and historic sites. There is a lovely walkway around the harbor entrance, cobblestone street and did I mention restaurants? Hotel Milano staff is bilingual, friendly and very accommodating. The rooms are small and comfortable. Breakfast is available on the rooftop, inside or out. Book reservations early as they go quickly.

We read the hotel reviews when we were trying to decide where to stay before our cruise in October 2011. We were very pleased with our overnight stay at Hotel Milano. The hotel is very clean, the staff is friendly, and it is located right in Old San Juan so it is easy to walk around to the historical forts and other local tourist sights. There are restaurants and bars within easy walking distance. We ate both breakfast and lunch at Cafe Manolin, a local diner with good food and friendly service. Be aware that if you have a front room in the hotel you will definitely hear the music and party sounds from the bars at night, so either bring earplugs or go join the party! If you are looking for a modern resort with lots of sparkling amenities, this is NOT the hotel for you. If you are looking for a quaint, well kept local hotel with helpful staff, this is a great place. Check-in and check-out was easy. If you are going on a cruise, they will hold your bags for you after you check out so that you can walk around before going to the ship, and they will call you a cab. They not only called our cab but went out and waited for it, helped load our bags, and made sure the cab driver knew which port we needed to go to. Price was reasonable too. We would definitely stay at Hotel Milano again.

High recommendation for small family-run hotel in Old San Juan. Comparatively inexpensive, walk to many restaurants, bars, shopping. VERY CLEAN. Staff is friendly - like everyone in the city - and very helpful. We will definitely stay there again. Be sure to visit bar on the corner and order pizza. Don't know from where they ordered it but really outstanding!

Outstanding location, small hotel on Fortaleza St. in Old San Juan. Don't drive - use a cab. Clean, comfortable, pretty expensive for a double (but it was Christmas high season), no amenities (but you're in the middle of Old San Juan with plenty of restaurants and activities) and a very helpful staff. I'd return on another visit; it's so well located.
