If you are staying here because you are cruising check you are not on the Pan-Am pier which is $21 plus bags way at the other side. This Hotel is faded and although has a regular lick of paint requires an interior designer to give it something of character. The 3:00pm check in time is very inconvenient if getting off a ship and the queues on Cruises changeover days are unbelievable with very little pre-organisation and space for the regular event.
The Hotel is in a good position in the town centre for life on the street and with the bus station close and very handy for getting around although the drivers consider foreigner should use taxies and are not very obliging.
There is free wi-fi around reception and a couple of floors, with free computers to print boarding cards etc. which is good, the pool on top deck is sufficient but small with only a few chairs.
Staff overall were very friendly, but the breakfast staff only chase the tip, the hot-cold breakfast buffet which I included in my week stay was very poor by any hotel standard and tasteless, if you wanted eggs or even (bacon not served everyday) it was extra, marmalade and honey could only be found on day one, and once used it was not replaced. There was nothing in breakfast that would make me have dinner here although we did have burgers and a beer on the front terrace which were normal US fodder.
Would I stay here again, or recommend to a friend, NO. I would go out onto a beach hotel and catch the bus into town when I needed to visit.
Also beware of festivals, we hired a car without knowing about the Festival of San Sebastian, and for four days Old San Juan was shut off with lots of traffic jams and we could not get back to our hotel by car and had to park miles away and catch a bus to our own car, on return of the car (day early) to Charlie Rentals they refused to take us back to town as per contract due to traffic and after waiting 45mins for a bus that never arrived, we insisted that they could not leave us and they took as close as they could.
