“Don't waste your money; it's not worth it”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

First I would like to say that the hotel is clean (at least my room was) but It's way overpriced and the staff is extremely rude. I try to stay exclusively at Hilton brand hotels whenever I travel and my advice to Hilton would be to retrain this hotel's staff.

First the false advertisement: Although this is a beach front property, you cannot swim in the beach. What's frustrating is that prior to booking, I called and asked and I was assured that I would have access to the beach. There is NO access to the beach (all rocks) and the only area to lay out besides the pool is a small boxsand made for children. This is false advertisement; they should not be deceiving guests.

Second extremely rude staff. I was trying to ask the concierge some questions and she became very rude and started arguing with me when I tried to correct the wrong information she gave me. She got very loud and her colleague noticed and stepped in.

In regards to both issues, I talked to the manager, Jean-Pierre, and what a waste of time that was. He did not offer to ammend the situation at all and was just as cold as his staff.

I will NEVER stay here or recommend this property to anyone.

Room Tip: Spend your money elsewhere..watch out for the rude staff

Dear liban0214,

Thank you for your feedback about your stay with us. I am glad to see that you enjoyed your room and its cleanliness. Regarding the beach, it is certainly true that ours is on the small side, but I hope you were able to enjoy its snorkeling reefs and intimacy to an extent. Of course "rude" is not the way our staff should be perceived as, since our standard is to go above and beyond for our guests. On behalf of the hotel, you have my apologies for any bad experience you may have had. Please contact me if you need further assistance or comments.

Sincerely,

Leah Rossi

“Great Time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

My review is super late but I wanted to write anyway. We used the Conrad San Juan as our home base for our destination wedding. We had 100 guests who all stood at the property with us. The contract process was easy although you do have to chase down your sales person at times. It was easy to add rooms to our block and they accommodated our requests easily.
Our stay was great. The majority of our guests had no issues with their room or check in. Any issues they did have were quickly remedied. The property itself had a decent casino and a great pool area. They do not allow you to bring your food or drinks to the pool so we moved our cooler an party to their make believe beach which was also on property. Note all beaches are public so although it was connected to the property anyone can stay on the beach. THe beach is more of a niche they created for guests. Definitely no where as nice as some of the beaches in Puerto RIco. Honestly all the beaches in the Condado area are often not fit for swimming and are average as best. The beach in Isla Verde is much nicer but if you rent a car whcih I would suggest you can visit some of the prettier beaches like Bocaron and Cana Gorda.
We ate at Veritas and El Piakyo famous Puerto Rican chef Wilo Benet's restaurants. Veritas was good although you can get traditional Puerto RIcan food down the block for half the price! El Pikayo which is their fine dining option was good as well although very loud. I had went to El Pikayo when it was in the Museum of Art and it seemed that both the food and the ambiance was nicer there. My familly and friends frequented the noodle bar which they say was yummy. The nightlife wasnt happening on the property so we would walk over to La Concha which was a couple of blocks away. We hadn't chosen La COncha to stay because they werent very accommodating. We were very pleased with our experience at the Conrad and if we were to stay in the Condado are we would choose it again.

Room Tip: THere two buildings, if you stay on the lagoon side you will need to cross the bridge to the main bu...

“Just average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

The room was great. Private balcony with ocean view. Could hear the ocean throughout the night.

The service was just okay. Areas where they met expectation: (1) The room was sufficiently cleaned in a timely manner. (2) The front desk and lobby personnel were polite and courteous. (3) The associates at the desk to help plan excursions were friendly and efficient. Areas where they did not meet expectation: (1) Room service screwed up my dinner order the first night, twice (Forgot my beverage and under cooked my entree.) I didn't notice the errors at the same time. So, I had to wait approx 40 mins (total time) for both errors to be fixed. The wait time seemed unusually long to me. (2) I called the concierge line 4 times - only once did someone answer. (3) One day the main elevators were "out of order" for over 8 hours. It took more than 3 hours for the staff to put signage up providing alternatives (stairs, other elevators, etc.) (4) The kiosk provided in the lobby area for the printing of boarding passes was out of paper the morning before and the morning of my flight. The fact that it didn't work turned the hotel's unexpected offer from a "delighter" to a "disappointment" for me. And, it was my last experience as I left the hotel.

The location was convenient (almost everything I wanted/needed was within a 10 min walk) but bad (had to walk by a vacant lot and a couple abandoned buildings to get to high-end shopping boutiques, non-hotel restaurants, and other establishments.)

For the right price (40-50% off published nightly rates), I would consider staying here again.

Room Tip: (1) Make sure you stay in the new building (2) Avoid room service

“Thank you Conrad Hotel for making us miss Puerto Rico a little less”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Our eagerly awaited six-day holiday in San Juan was nearly ruined by staying at the Conrad. It wasn't the price (which was allegedly lower than average for the season because of a package deal), nor the poorly designed room (one of those inexplicably stupid design choices that put the closet IN the bathroom), nor even the joke of a beach at the foot of the building. No. It was the appalling way in which we were treated by the staff every single day we were there. I'll only post these two examples so as not to bore the reader: I had made the reservation nearly three months in advance because we needed a crib for our baby daughter and I know these things can be tricky if you fail to ask for one with some anticipation. Morover, I called the hotel the week and then the day before our arrival to ensure we'd have the crib ready for the baby to sleep off the long trip there. We get to the hotel at four in the afternoon and, of course, there's no crib to be found. We waited and called the front desk and then called again and waited some more until, finally, at 8:30pm, we received the ugliest, most jail-cell-like contraption for infants we'd ever seen. A bunch of other annoyingly mundane stuff happened and then came time to check out. After waiting for 45 minutes for the bellboy to arrive at our room I gave up, burdened myself with our luggage and made it to the front desk where my wife was checking us out. A snippet of the conversation with the clerk:
My wife (trying very hard to maintain her composure): We waited 45 minutes for the bellboy to show. What happened?
The clerk (with insulting non-chalance): Yes, do you need help now?
The only salvageable part of the hotel was the valet parking guys: They were very helpful and courteous all around.
A little over two years ago we moved away from San Juan after spending three magical years living there so this trip was supposed to have been magical as well. Thank you Conrad Hotel for making us miss Puerto Rico a little less

Room Tip: Ask for closet OUTSIDE the bathroom

Dear szavost,

It is very regretful to see that your stay with us has left a negative memory for your return to Puerto Rico. Your feedback is important to us and our cribs will be verified thanks to your comment. Nonchalance is the last thing that we want to portray to our guests, especially ones who have been disgruntled. Please accept our sincere apologies for your experiences. I will investigate what may have went wrong with your checkout process. Thank you again.

“Nice location but service was poor”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Stayed 5 nights but even though we told them 5 times the air conditioning was not working they didn't fix it. We did get 2 free bottles of water each day and wonder if that was to make up for the room being warm. The first night the a/c made a loud thump every 20-30 minutes and scared the heck out of us. We called the front desk 5 more times and I think all they did was to disconnect the a/c unit. Consequently the room was pretty warm at night.

Room was $200 a night plus resort fee, plus tax, plus parking (yikes!) and seemed a bit tired. Walls were a bit dirty in the bathroom, seemed like cheap paint was used that couldn't be cleaned to get the dirt off the wall around the light switch.

Good location but some run-down or abandoned buildings next door and across the street. Was told it was not safe to walk on the street late at night.
