When we stayed at the SJ Resort & Stellaris Casino, they were still finishing up the work on the lobby... so even with the construction we had an outstanding time. Let me tell you why: during the Thanksgiving week it seems that families from all over take advantage of the discounted rates to fly in - super for families of children that want to play with others! They highly touted slide and pools are fantastic. Staff is more than amazing. We were able to use the club on the top floor (Marriott gold) and have free breakfast daily. We could also return for happy hour snacks. The view is outstanding. Everything is very clean. Service is outstanding. You have to ask if you are not satisfied or if you want something. Pool side is a little slow, but we didn't use it much. You know we didn't get beach side rooms and didn't miss it. We had a view of the Starbucks side of the street. I liked looking at the city - didn't mind looking at the rooftops. We weren't there often. Saved our money for souvenirs and other things. Despite crime stats and warnings, we had no problems walking around - even at night. But we didn't go out late it's true. Stocked up on Walgreen's water. The two Puerto Rican restaurants down the street are amazing, and very friendly. We ate local entirely. Wow, I miss Puerto Rico! When we return you bet we are staying at the Stellaris! I'm glad that we didn't book a lot of stuff before we left - you can go to El Junque and get in for free without the guided tour. I wanted the tour but my child would never had made it. Plan for 4 hours. We also had to skip a few other things because of car sickness. I have heard now there is a less twisty path to take by rental, for our return, but I have to look it up. The one thing I bought first was off site airport parking and that paid off. It was faster than long-term parking at the airport, and much less expensive. We'll do that again.
Room Tip: We don't spring for the beach facing rooms because we are a family on a budget. We're never...
