Caleta 64 is the best hotel I've ever stayed in, and I've been to a lot of relatively high end B&Bs and hotels ($400+ per night) in the US, Europe, and the Caribbean. Here's the quick summary on why I am in love with this place:
1. Location: On a quiet side street in Old San Juan (Banyan trees, cobblestone streets, magic), yet right next to the action (excellent bars, restaurants, and shops). If you're staying in or near San Juan, don't even think about staying in a resort on the beach. Stay in Old San Juan. It's a magical place. Example: we ate at the Tappas restaurant a few doors down from Caleta 64, in a building built in 1523, which also was a special experience.
2. The apartment itself: Immaculate old world style, massive high wooden doors, extremely high ceilings with beautiful exposed beams, very clean. The apartment that I stayed in (they are all configured differently) had a master bedroom, kitchen with laundry, living room with pullout hide-a-bed, and 2 bathrooms (1 had a shower), great AC, all appliances and electronics modern, espite the old world feel. When you walk in you will realize that no words can describe how nice this place is. It's deluxe with serious old world charm.
3. The owner (who was also the person that met us): Super nice, very helpful, generous with her time showing us all the places to go in old San Juan, even came back the next day because I was interested in seeing another one of the apartments.
My stay was with a sailing buddy at the end of a long sailing trip, but I fell in love with Old San Juan and Caleta 64 so much that in the next few winters I plan to take my wife for a week vacation in hopefully the same apartment I stayed at in Caleta 64.
