“Best hotel I've ever stayed in.”

Caleta 64 is the best hotel I've ever stayed in, and I've been to a lot of relatively high end B&Bs and hotels ($400+ per night) in the US, Europe, and the Caribbean. Here's the quick summary on why I am in love with this place:

1. Location: On a quiet side street in Old San Juan (Banyan trees, cobblestone streets, magic), yet right next to the action (excellent bars, restaurants, and shops). If you're staying in or near San Juan, don't even think about staying in a resort on the beach. Stay in Old San Juan. It's a magical place. Example: we ate at the Tappas restaurant a few doors down from Caleta 64, in a building built in 1523, which also was a special experience.

2. The apartment itself: Immaculate old world style, massive high wooden doors, extremely high ceilings with beautiful exposed beams, very clean. The apartment that I stayed in (they are all configured differently) had a master bedroom, kitchen with laundry, living room with pullout hide-a-bed, and 2 bathrooms (1 had a shower), great AC, all appliances and electronics modern, espite the old world feel. When you walk in you will realize that no words can describe how nice this place is. It's deluxe with serious old world charm.

3. The owner (who was also the person that met us): Super nice, very helpful, generous with her time showing us all the places to go in old San Juan, even came back the next day because I was interested in seeing another one of the apartments.

My stay was with a sailing buddy at the end of a long sailing trip, but I fell in love with Old San Juan and Caleta 64 so much that in the next few winters I plan to take my wife for a week vacation in hopefully the same apartment I stayed at in Caleta 64.

Room Tip: I liked being up high (not first floor), in the apartment with the 3 rooms, whose name I have now fo...

“Great location in Old San Juan”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Stayed here for a couple of nights before a cruise out of San Juan. The apartment was clean and full of amenities. The Property owner was very nice and helpful. The unit also has a washer and dryer which really came in handy because we were traveling very light. The unit also had a flat screen TV with Satellite, a fridge and a full kitchen facilities. The street that this property is located on in Caleta San Juan and at one end of the block is El Convento and the San Juan Cathedral (both worth a little of your time in OSJ) and the other end is the San Juan Gate and a great walking path along the old city walls. We actually walked to El Morro from here and it a beautiful and not strenuous walk. You can pretty much walk anywhere in Old San Juan from this location. One note is that you may want to spray for Mosquitoes, they seem to be everywhere in Puerto Rico including indoors. Overall a great place and that has a lot to offer! Also remember that when you choose to stay in Old San Juan you are in the City and it is a bustling place!

“We wouldn't stay anywhere else in Old San Juan! Next door to El Convento, less than half the price.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Caleta 64 is next door to The famous El Convento, costs less tan half the price, and offers a totally different experience of Old San Juan. Of the several apartments available in this authentic, old Spanish-tiled residence, we chose the one in front on the second floor with twenty foot ceilings and huge wooden doors out to our own private balcony overlooking the street at tree level. (Adoquin) Perfect for meals and cocktails. Full kitchen nicely equipped, tiled bath, and good platform bed. Some street noise, a stairway to the second floor, and the agility required of the sleeper next to the wall when getting in or out of bed are the only considerations. We adored it and plan to return to our delightful host, Betsy, whenever we are back on OSJ. callilu
