“Beautiful Place...not so beautiful service.”

Hacienda Casa Taina was absolutely gorgeous. My fiance and I stayed for four days in April. The room was beautiful, clean and spacious with a wonderful private bath. The pool was great and the mountainview was unreal. Two howevers, the service and the drive. We arrived a half-our before check-in. A host of guests had to wait in the dining area, because the computers would charge an extra night if you checked in a second before 3pm. Therefore, there was a long line for check in. Breakfast was o.k. and there was no coffee, snacks or anything available during the day. The drive: Jayuya is definately UP UP UP UP UP in the mountains, and far from everything else. If you are going to get away from it all - Jayuya is the place to be. If you are scared of the extremely steep inclines - BEWARE! Despite the howevers, I would return. The hammocks, parrots, mountainview and peacefulness of the Hacienda were enough to overlook it's small deficiencies.

“Beautiful Views, Wonderful Staff”

I absolutely enjoyed my stay in Casa Taina. We only stayed for one night, but we plan to go back. Ivet, the concierge/tour guide/storyteller is just a gem. She pointed out all the wonderful things to do in Jayuya (don't miss La Piedra Escrita and El Museo del Cemi). The rooms are big, clean, beautifully decorated. The property itself is gorgeous and has beautiful views. Don't miss eating at the restaurant. The Chicken in Passion Fruit Sauce is wonderful.

“Well-kept Secret in Central Puerto Rico”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2006

This place is beautiful and on a nice location for those looking some peace and those looking for checking the other Puerto Rico. This place is very clean, staff is super-friendly, and food is amazing. The restaurant has an upscale look, but it's not expensive at all. Most dinner plates cost about $10, and the taste is terrific. You can also have food outside the restaurant by the bar. They also have breakfast at very affordable prices, besides the daily continental breakfast, which is free.
Rooms are very clean, not many channels on the TV though, but if you are staying at the mountains, there are many, many things to do besides watching TV. Rooms have A/C and bathrooms are very clean. We paid little less than $90 per night, including taxes.
Check its webiste (casataina) for pictures of the resort. Pool is on a nice spot, bar is nicely laid out (it even has two pool tables).
It also has two rooms for activities (weddings, birthdays, etc.); one of them is HUGE.
I think this place is great for those looking for vacations in Puerto Rico and doing something else besides going to the beach. There are nice places to go in the Jayuya-Utuado-Adjuntas area, such as the Lago Dos Bocas in Utuado, where you could eat lunch by a restaurant by the lake (we recommend Rancho Marina), there is Toro Negro Forest, where you could go hiking (there are waterfalls, towers, etc.), the Piedra Escrita, Doña Juana waterfall, etc.
To close, in addition to recommend this place to everyone, we believe that this parador has a niche on adult couples (40+) that would like to have a long dinner at a nice restaurant at the mountains, while enjoying great food and great wines (the owner has good taste for wines and has a small wine cellar inside the restaurant).

“Give this some thought”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 April 2006

I stayed at this location in Jayuya in April and paid a little over 100.00 per night. In summary if you want to stay in Jayuya, this is the place to stay- but its important to know what to expect.
The good: the hotel is clean, the employees are friendly and the mountain views are beautiful. The restaurant food is very good- served outdoors taking advantage of the view. The rooms include a coffee maker and hair dryer and the grounds offers a small size outdoor pool and fountains (though not operating at the time of my stay).
The not so good: the rooms are very simple and small. I had a queen bed, in a room approximately 12 x 12 in size. It included a small TV mounted on the wall, a small table and just enough room to walk around the bed. No Chair, no desk no work space. The bath room was a sufficient size and included a tub and shower. There is warm water, but you have to be patient. The air conditioner works to cool but not particularly well for dehumidifying. The rooms, especially the bathroom , are very dark, even in the middle of the day. There are few room lights with low wattage bulbs and heavy dark shades. There is no light above the bathroom mirror ( just a small light on the wall to light the entire room) and the windows are small and provide very little natural light. The inner hallways are also poorly lit and dark.
Again, as the choices are limited, this is the best place to stay in Jayuya, but know what to expect; if you are interested in a large room with work space or play space for the children- this is not your hotel.
TIPS:
1. The road into the hotel in a steep climb and can be easily missed from the road.
2.Drive to the bar area/ restaurant area, drop luggage off and head back down the hill to park your car ( it’s a long walk with a few suitcases).
3. The afternoons get cloudy- so wake up early and take advantage of the view.
4. Don't go home without buying Fresh Jayuya Coffee in the local supermarket.

“Not for those in search of peace & quiet!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2005

The observations of the prior poster are basically accurate. But please note, they stayed there with a family, and my observation was that this is a FAMILY vacation hotel. It is thus full of small children. It has marble floors and big, echo-y hallways. In addition, the rooms are jam-packed with furniture so you cannot really do anything in them other than sleep. What this means is, small children will be playing in the halls constantly, and their voices will be magnified and echoing.

So, if you have small children, this will be a great place to go, hang out with other people with small children, and have a rollicking good time in a beautifully landscaped, unique-looking hotel. If you are a couple looking for a mountain hideaway and solitude, or a romantic place for a quiet honeymoon, you may not like Hacienda Casa Taina.

I also have to say that, despite what travel guides say, Jayuya is NOT a good base for visiting places like the Cave Park and Areicibo Observatory. Because of the twisty mountain roads, travel from Jayuya to the Cave Park/observatory area took nearly two hours one-way.
