“Read my review and then go enjoy your holiday!!!!!”

First of all, I would like to put everyone at rest that is concerned about the bad reviews that this resort seems to get all to often. After spending a week with my wife enjoying all there was to offer I just dont understand what some people expect. Now to clarify, we are just an everyday couple from Regina , who enjoys good food, seeing the local culture, laying around the pool or beach and some sort of entertainment. We have been to several southern resorts.

Room - We stayed in 18524. A beuatiful view of the ocean, quiet and great maid service. She forgot towels one day , so I called and we had them in 3 minutes with an apology. Very clean room, American TV channels as well as CBC. King sized bed with firmer mattress than we are used to , but still comfortable. Fridge stocked dialy with beer, water and pop . NO COMPLAINTS

Food - Buffet was a good size with diff food everyday, but also with alot of repition. It was very tasty, always fresh and never cold like some say. I would guess if they got cold food it would be near closing hours when nothing is being replenished . The shack by the beach served good chicken and other food throughout the day. We were on a Royal Golden package so got four ala cartes reserved in advance. All were great. NO COMPLAINTS

Beach - From reading some reviews I am assuming that people think that the beach is in front of the resort. Yes, there is one there, full of rocks in the sand and poor swimming. Hello folks, that is not the beach, it is strictly for snorkeling. The beach is actually left of the resort and not that far as some claim. My wife and I walked to the far end of it in less than 10 minutes. It is large with sufficient sand and nice clear water to swim in. I would say it is an average beach , but still very good. I saw hundreds of people, inlcuding us and others with children having an amazing time on it. People complain to far to walk , but I jogged the entire resort from one end to the other ( by way of both beaches) in 4:50 seconds so lets get real.

Alcohol - Plentiful

Tips - What are people talking about??? I was not pressured once to tip nor did I feel I had to. There are no tip jars laying around at all. I choose to tip as I feel I do in Canada so why would I not there ??? Yes, it is an all inclusive resorts, but come on, as if the workers see it. My service was great whether I had tip money or not and to be honest mosst people did not tip.

Check in - Fast as we had our own room to do it in because of the package. Filled out a form , got our keys and were gone. Had to wait 5 min in line for room safe. Boo Hoo !!!!!

Excursions - Did the YS Falls, Black River, Appleton Estates for 120 a person. Saw a lot of the culture. Was very enlightening, but in the 12 hour day spent 6 driving. Okay on the way out as everything was interesting, but back in was long. Would still reccommend but not for kids. Climbing Dunns rivers is fun as did on a cruise before.Take a cab though as much cheaper.

Pool - Cool and big which is great during hot days. Very clean and several quiet ares. Two swim up bars. Place was packed and we always found chairs , so dont listen to those who whine that others reserve them. If I wanted cool shade I would have stayed home. Lay in the sun and put some lotion on.

Enough is enough. Please e-mail me with any questions as you will get an honest answer.

“Nice hotel, Terrible Beach”

The hotel was very nice and clean! Beautiful gardens and well maintained. Very big with lots of walking. Not very good for a disability. The food was good. The japanese was delicious. Downside, the beach is Terrible!! No sand ,just rocks and pebbles. Definately need water shoes. The locals as well are very agressive and pushy to sell you things. Would not reccomend shopping off the resort . There are enough shops in the hotel.. The service was OK but not great, sometimes very slow. The night life is pretty much non existing. Not much happening at all. The week I had the weather was also Terrible !! Meeting people on the plane on the way home had great weather in negril area..Go there instead! Nicer beach.. Be prepared to have lots of tip money. Thats the only motivation, it seems. Also save your money on the excursions through the travel company and get a local named Kevin. Ask at the front desk for him. Nice guy and cheaper. Would reccomend dunns river falls. Beautiful spot !!

Room Tip: I stayed in the 23 building on the 4th floor. Great view of the ocean and the pool. Quiet!

“At par with other Gran Bahia BUT missing a little something”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

last minute trip- have been to 3 other GBP, this one is just as nice, but was missing a little something? a few other couples shared my views...there was only one Christmas tree, and no other decorations..weird in comparison to last year in Holguin,Cuba, and the year before in Punta Cana?
Food, always good, at times great..except my husbands swears it was the SAME fish with a different name every night..other than that- I am a fussy eater, and certainly did not starve..buffet always had a lot to chose from, and the a La Cartes were really nice.
our room was directly over the terrace, which we LOVED, we enjoyed the live music and people watching from our Balcony!! never had an issue with noise. the room was clean, and our maid Elizabeth was lovely- and probably the nicest person in the resort staff..others were to us- just not that friendly? we are avid travellers, and know how to tip, and when to tip (always) but it felt like it was never "enough"- which left me feeling angry>..some people were NEVER tipping! which is awful.
all in all a good trip. and yes I would reccomend this resort
HOWEVER, know that there is only the resort, the BEACH, there really isn't one- it is man made bay- =NO walking from one resort to another- barely any walking at all>>>tours, as the normal there are tons
dont spend money on purses they are all CRAP...went on the 3 hour shopping to Ocho Rios, which is a good way to spend a cloudy morning, but the shops are repetive, and remember to BARGAIN..but would suggest not buying anything other then booze and t shirts.
overall. a decent vacation.

Room Tip: above the reception/terrace, we loved- top floor has a great view, of the pool and the ocean

“Awesome Vacation, Don't listen to the bad reviews!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

My boyfriend and I along with 8 of our friends (Ages 24-32) just returned from this resort. We were there from Jan 26th-Feb 3rd/2012. Like most travellors I did read all of the reviews before arriving and was not worried about the resort as I wanted to make an opinion of my own. I would give this resort a 9 out of 10, I have been to my fair share of all inclusive resorts before and this is by far the best one I have been to! Yes some of the negative reviews are true, some of the service is slow but if you havn't heard....they are on JAMAICAN time. Yes the carpets in the hallways can be dirty....get over it! They were actually replacing some of it when we were there. Yes some of the food in the buffet is repetative but not a huge deal as they did have some theme nights. To me and the people I was with felt that these were minor issues and nothing worth complaining about. I have no idea what planet people are from who have said the food was awful? It was some of the best food I have ever eaten at an all inclusive? We even got Steak and Lobster at the Garden Grill at no extra charge, most resort I have been to the Lobster is extra. We went to every a la carte except for the Italian and they were all Amazing! Overall I would rate this resort a solid 4*-41/2*. I would go back to this resort but I would like to try out another resort if I returned to Jamaica.
My group was spread out between blocks 16,17, and 18. If you have children or goto bed early then do not stay in Blocks 15,16, or 17 as that is right where the entiretainment is and is very loud until about 2a.m with the Disco. The Steel Drum show on Thursday night was Fantastic and so was the Micheal Jackson tribute! The pool is awesome and yes the water is cold but when it's 37 degrees do you want it to be warm? Yes people saved the lounge chairs but they have so many that we never had a problem getting one. If you are thinking of staying at this resort then GO, make an opinion of your own, it was a wonderful place to stay and beautiful if you are looking at getting married there as well! Initially we thought the resort was going to be huge because it does have over 800 rooms however since all the blocks of rooms are connected it really is not as big as it seems and you can get everywhere fairly quickly. Who doesn't need to walk after eating at the buffet everday! We travelled through the week Thurs-Thurs so we got a better deal that way.

“ummm, should of listened to the negative reviews”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

If you have any physical problems do not stay here. Lots and lots of walking and many steps.

1) The beach is absolutley terrible. In front to the hotel is a very large beach that has some king of crush rock or limestone and nobody, I mean nobody is there. If you go to the left it gets better. The farther left you go the better but it is a long way away from food.

2) The first 2 days the food is okay. But, after that it is just the same old, same old. It gets old quick.

3) Entertainment is just not there. They stay at one spot at the pool play a coulple games. Then you see them at night for a small preshow which is not really funny at all. Then after words some show comes on, maybe some dancing. This is not very good. They are all out of sync. Even the Michael Jackson show was not very good. Some of the dancers were all over the place. The stage is so small which is some of the problem.

4) We paid for a seaview room. They put us on the 3rd floor with a big tree in front of the balcony. We asked to be moved. After 2 days they finally moved us to 1 floor higher. This was much better. But, there were giant cracks in a lot of the tile in the bathroom. The big glass that goes over the night table by the bed was not there. Tv is a little 19 inch tube tv. Cannot believe they don't have flat screens yet.

4)For 2 days in a row I had to call down to the lobby for a towel. 2 people staying in the room and gave us 1 towel. Just ridiculous.

Yes, there are elevators. But, they are hard to find because there is not a whole lot of signs where stuff is. And, you have to walk forever to find them.

Carpeting in the hallways is a joke. Why you a beach resort do this. They are so discolored with stains. Some of the carpets look like bleach was poured on half of them..

I could go on and on but I just want to forget about this sad place. Stay at the RIU in Ocho Rios. Much better everything.

Only 2 good things at the Bahia. Jerk Chicken and the Dirty banana. That is it.
