Travelled with First Choice on 9th Jan 2012. Transfer from airport took about 1 hour 30. On arriving at RDCC check in was efficient and we were in our room within 15 minutes. Had cottage room 118 which was just as you see in the pictures - Basic but spacious with good air conditioning and clean. Only issue was the mattress which was a bit uncomfortable although if you laid on duvet it was okay. RDCC has 3 little bays (we think man made) so there were busy and quiet areas. The beaches were very well maintained. It was pretty breezy most days and seaweed was washed up however it was cleared every morning so no problem really. We were always able to get sun beds at any time of the day and we really liked the massive mattresses that were put out for sunbathing. There were 3 Jetties so again plenty of choice. It is not a fantastic place for snorkelling but there were several types of fish within very close proximity to one of the Jetties and would have been ideal for a beginner. Non motorised water sports were free and you could book motorised for a fee. Food was fine, varied and tasty - seafood/fish available every day, local dishes and the usual buffet style food. Desserts looked very nice but we were always too full to try. If you are a traditional roast beef and Yorkshire pudding person you may have struggled on some nights such as Jamaican night. We can only assume that those who have previously complained were maybe not adventurous enough to try some of the slightly weird looking but very tasty local dishes. There were 4 bars. Lots of variety of drinks including some branded drinks such as Jack Daniels, Cointreau, Tia Maria, Smirnoff, Gordon’s and Campari. Lager was red stripe. Bar staff were excellent and if you didn't know what drink you wanted they would make one up for you. Michael at the Jetty Bar was thoroughly entertaining. The entertainment was provided by Jamaican and French animation teams. We thought this worked pretty well and we cannot understand why others have complained. Lots of Jamaican entertainment including Reggae nights, local cultural groups and singers. If you didn't know who Bob Marley was before you went you would by the time you left. They all worked so hard to make sure all nationalities were accommodated. If you did not want to experience the entertainment there were plenty of quieter places to go. We did 2 trips, Dunns River Falls and Bob Marley by Jeep. We really enjoyed these and it was really good fun on the Jeep as you went through lots of little towns and felt close to the Jamaican culture. Trips are not cheap but worth it. We did venture out of RDCC to the local shops. Surprised that we were not pestered that much by locals selling their goods. If you do like shopping and don't mind the hustle and bustle then Ocho Rios is probably the best place to go shopping, not for us though. US dollars are preferred to Jamaican dollars, but we had no problems using Jamaican. For those like me who may worry that complexes that offer weddings get taken over by the wedding party, this was not the case and there were 3 very nice low key weddings that you noticed happened but that was all. We nearly didn't go on holiday due to a family bereavement but glad we did. The RDCC is quiet when you want it, loud when you want and an all round good place to be, even in difficult circumstances. Would we return - a resounding yes although the world is too big a place!!
