“Great Spot!!!”

This spot is extra large!!! The beach, the people, the food & the vibes are just right! My girl & I stayed here back in December 2011 & we absolutely loved it!! They got the surf & they got the turf.. The staff is great, the huts are awesome everything is natural & open to the wilderness, all the local people are great as well. For those who wish to experience Jamaica outside of the all inclusive big resorts The Great Huts is the spot.

Room Tip: All rooms are open to nature & there are small lizards that come into your room. These lizards a...

“Absolutely Beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

Great Huts is really living on the 'edge of paradise'. My son and I had a wonderful time. We stayed for four days - 3 in the Almond tree house and 1 in the Sea Grape. My son fell in love with the Almond tree house and even cried when we switched to the Sea Grape on the last night. Both huts for me was very beautiful and I loved the view from the Sea Grape - sunrise was just breath-taking.

Food there was abolutely delicious and made to order. I enjoyed the freshly sweezed orange juice and the fresh fruit smoothies. The pizzas are excellent and the pasta meals.

The staff are very friendly, the two Managers; Julie and Maggie were very pleasant and accommodating. They were my son's new found aunties. Macia my dinner chef, if only I could take her home - her cooking was just sublime!

I was looking forward to bathing in the sea water pool but it was not filled as the sea water pump was down and the seas were too rough to get it repaired - but this did not stop my son and I from having a good time.

Surrounding sites were wonderful - so much to do, so much to see and I will be visiting again soon. Visited Frenchman's Cove, San San Beach, Winnifred Beach & Blue lagoon.

“A life-changing experience”

I came to Great Huts to stay for 2 months as a volunteer at the local homeless shelter in Port Antonio (if anyone is interested in this experience, email Dr. Paul through the contact info on Great Huts' website). I was looking for a getaway and place to find some clarity and peace of mind. This is exactly what I got and so much more. Everyone at Great Huts instantly became my Jamaican family and friends; they took care of me when I felt sick, they made me laugh and took me to do activities, they accommodated my special dietary needs, and they made me feel safe and secure in Jamaica. Being in a jungle atmosphere and living in a hut is such a unique experience and gave me such mental clarity, an experience I could not have gotten elsewhere. The grounds are stunning and the Boston community is so tight-knit that you will become a part of them quickly if that is the sort of vacation you are looking to have. Nearby capital Port Antonio is a small city with all of the necessities for a traveler, but also gives that small-town vibe where everyone knows your name and asks how you are as you walk around. I could not possibly recommend staying at Great Huts any stronger- if you are looking for a gorgeous but down-to-earth experience in a beautiful untouched part of the country where things are safe and friendly, stay at Great Huts!!!

“Rustic Luxury! An Unforgettable Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2011

'Great Huts touched the ground lightly, and touched my heart greatly!'

While we stayed there, we took almost 400 pictures!

Great Huts was an amazing experience when my wife and myself went there for our wedding honeymoon in January 2011. The service from the owner and staff, the food and the amenities were all of a high standard.

Everymorning when I woke up, there was a new experience I looked forward to. There was never a dull moment! If we were not climbing the cliffs, we were swimming, talking with the parrots, relaxing in the hammocks, taking pictures, lazing in our bedroom ( in Bamboo Garden), reading books from the library in the lobby area, learning about the history of the Huts and the environment from the staff, enjoying jerk chicken from the near by Boston Jerk Centre, or simply nothing- but just listening to the wind that was always whistling among the many almond trees that can be found on the property.

As an architect, I found the architecture of the property to be of the highest quality. The architecture would be considered 'rustic luxury' with traditional Jamaican touches. Every component of each hut was well put together to create a beautiful ensemble complimented by the lush tropical environment. It is eco friendly, environmentally sustainable and safe. What I loved most about the design of the property, was that it was built to have as little as possible impact on the site, and the design elements and decor were very creatively done.

Great Huts- Rustic Luxury! An Unforgettable Experience.

“Great HUTS- Living a Fantasy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2011

Great Huts ….a fantastic experience!!!! It was a seemly out of reach Travel channel episode that came to life. Our two families thought it was the highlight of our 10 day trip to Jamaica and will cherish the memories. Our wonderful experience started when Margaret (the manager) went out of her way to return to the property after she was off duty to let us know if the Tree houses we wanted were available. Apparently she is the only one that can make reservations, but it was well worth the effort and time to wait for her. When the tree houses we wanted were not available she offered another option of the Queen of Sheba hut because it would easily fit both our families. After reserving only a one night stay, Margaret was also happy to answer our numerous questions during several following phone calls. This friendly wonderfully personal service is much of what makes the stay at GREAT HUTS so special.

After a long day of tourist stops during our drive from Montego Bay, we were exhausted. But once entering the gates of Great Huts property we were revitalized and ready to explore. Our two 11 year old children were bouncing off the trees with excitement.
Margret took us to the Queen of Sheba hut which all of us, especially the kids, were crazy about. Margaret also showed us the Fig tree house and the adults fell in love with it as well. It only took us a few minutes to decide to take both units and stay for two nights agreeing that the families would switch rooms each night. It was kind of like Living in the Swiss Family Robinson movie but BETTER!!!

The service was incredible with our dinners served in our Fig tree dining area the breakfast was GREAT and the beach was fantastic with its hammocks and magnificent view. Loved it and would definitely recommend it to anyone who would like a unique, NATURAL Jamaican experience. Thanks GREAT Huts and Margaret!!!!

Room Tip: Tree houses are the best for the romantic ambiance, but if you need more room go for the Queen of Sh...
