“Paradise, great views, fantastic beach, very private and a place to be creative, paint, wirte, relax.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 February 2011

This was my tenth visit to Frenchman's. As always, it was a peaceful and relaxing time. Expect quiet and solitute if you like. The villas do not have television, however, TV is available in the Great House; however, who wants to watch TV when there is such beauty to enjoy. This is not a modern luxcury hotel. It was a very elegant resort in the 60's and has been kept up quiete niecley and dose show the signs of time. The architecture is wonderful and the landscape and grouds are beautiful.
I like to sleep with the sliding doors open listening to the sea waves lulling me to sleep. I don't mind the lighting bugs in my room at night. The villas and guest rooms at the Great House are very spacious.

“Good design, lush well-kept grounds, and meeting space surrounded by birds and vegetation make this place special.”

Frenchman's Cove was designed as a luxury resort over 50 years ago. The architecture and layout of the grounds, with 1, 2, and 3-bedroom villas dotted along ocean cliffs has endured hurricanes, unrest, and economic changes remarkably well. Because it is so beautiful and relaxed, and the staff so willing to help and make sure things work, aging fixtures are not a significant distraction. Our group has met at Frenchman's over a number of years and we just finished our annual week together. Everyone was reluctant to leave at the end, some staying on longer to enjoy the environs without pre-set schedules. It's outside of town and very quiet and private, and it's easy to get into Port Antonio for dinner, craft shopping, or to go half an hour the other direction and get Jamaica's original jerk. A highlight was the day we went rafting on the nearby Rio Grande River. You can have a continental breakfast on the grounds, and freshly grilled lunch on the beach. Well worth the drive from Kingston or away from the more touristy areas around Montego Bay and Negril.

“sand, Sea, Sky, Solitude”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2011

Located outside of town, this space is unspoiled nature. Beautiful, clean, white sand private beach with the beautiful Caribbean sea is located on the gated property. The lodgings are villas and individual rooms. This is the place for romantic tropical weddings or honeymoons. Entertainment and restaurants are located just a few minutes away. Local tropical fruits are always part of the included breakfast. River rafting and other outdoor activities can be arranged by the front office. This is the true tropical getaway.

“Beautiful Tranquil surroundings”

We reached Frenchman's Cove on a 'humble', after visiting Buff Bay, Likkle Porti, and Somerset Falls. Just kinda happened upon it. We weren't gonna stay overnight just go to the beach. Wow loved it! Secluded, tranquil, 'not touristy' lol. 1st thing we noticed when we got into the water was top few inches (like a layer) was cool and a warm under current. Loved it. Service was fine. Didnt really need much of that, just playing arround in the water, relaxing on the beach, building sandcastles......We will return in the future. I recommend it to those who are just passing through. Enjoy!

“Stay Away”

First the good. Continental breakfast was worth it. The secluded beach and river are absolutely lovely. The ocean view and tranquil location would rival any other location.

However, these owners and the Jamaica Tourist Board must be smoking something is they think that this dump will last long as a hotel. Rather disappointing especially since I grew up here. The first sign is the hotel sign itself. Torn and broken, this is very telling of what to expect on the inside. Roach infested accomodations is not what expected to expose my family to. It was embarrasing as a Portlander to take anyone to this place. It is run-down, unmaintained and we checked out after one night. We had a two bedroom cottage and the a/c worked in one of the rooms. No fun sleeping in excessive summer heat at night on your vacation.

On our way back we noticed that the sign had collapsed, maybe this dump would too.
