“What an eccentric hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 February 2007

I loved this hotel - it has to be seen to be believed! The rooms are nicely appointed (although the air-con is a bit on the noisy side). The overall ambience is brilliant - really quirky - art and caged birds around every corner - the swimming pool in the shape of jamaica.

They really go the extra mile in making sure you have a good time - fresh flowers on the bed every day and the owners are always on-hand to help smooth over any little wrinkles (including mending the printer in the IT room!)

I wouldn't recommend the restaurant though, unless you are sick of Jamaican food and really want something European.

“Paradise Found”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 April 2006

We had the pleasure of staying at the Jamaica Palace Hotel for one night in March. A unique palatial experience. We felt as though we were royalty. Friendly staff and beautiful accommodations and surroundings. The owner made us the best cup of Blue Mountain coffee we ever tasted. We can't wait to go back for a longer stay.

“Strange place”

The hotel reminded me of a pretentious golf course in North Carolina or a mega-funeral home. The common areas, hallways and rooms are mainly in good taste, sometimes very charming - like the tropical bird caged in an atrium. The outdoor patio is huge and the chess board pattern creates a bizarre and disturbing feeling that could trigger an epileptic seizure. It called to mind the old TV series "The Prisoner" (with Patrick McCowan (sp?) as the character known as number 6).

“Almost perfect getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2006

The hotel is not your usual tourist resort. This is where you go if you want to get away from tourist hustle and enjoy privacy in beautifully landscaped grounds. Very nice owners and managers. Good value. Food was okay; dinner service was below par (red or white wine?). Loved the place until my mobile phone was stolen from the room. Had to leave early. What a shame. Still thinking about staying here again.

The hotel was beautiful. Although it was not our first choice, we were happy.
The staff that greated us was very helpful. I called many times before arriving to confirm various details and they were always helpful. I suggest speaking with Lorna at the front desk.
I also suggest including breakfast with your room as their breakfast can be a bit pricey. Although the hotel was booked, we always felt as if we had the entire place to ourselves. The hotel staff was always helpful, but in Jamaica- always be prepared to wait. I suggest taking a cab away from town towards the blue lagoon or Boston Jerk (great chicken- try the chicken sausage).
Very important to bring your own shampoo/ conditioner/ soap/ lotion and towels. The water never really went above very warm and to get this, the shower should be turned on for about 10 minutes. However, the maids make the most creative animals and things with the towels- accented with flowers.
Great hotel for those who want to do a whole lot of nothing. Even in December/ January, you can get a great tan/ sun burn. Even if it rains, it only lasts for about 20 minutes.
