“Disgusting”

We arrived at the hotel late evening (thank God). We droved up the lonely road for about 20 minutes and noted that no other vehicle passed us on the way; this meant for us that the hotel would not be full and we would receive better service, however, when we finally got on the property we realized that there were no one there but us (later I would know why).

The landscape and the view were terrific. We went on into the reception area where the dining and bar were also located. The furniture in the dinning area seemed old and run down but looked clean. The dinning room is open and also offered a nice view of the coast. When we checked in, the receptionist required payment upfront (hmmm).

We paid and we were taken to our room by a lady. The room was big and spacious, but the furniture again looked old and dingy. She turned on the fan and then the air conditioning which started up like an old truck with engine problems. I asked her if the a/c would continue to make that noise and she said "no, it will get quiet after awhile". She handed me the remote for the television (which is broken by the way) and left. I surveyed the room and checked the sheets and the bathroom. The sheets were old, dingy and stained. The towels were also old and dingy (I was so happy we had taken our own). The pillows on the sofa were badly stained. The carpet was disgusting, it was so badly stained, and it needed to be thrown out. The drapes which did nothing to block the light out the room were mildew; then the mother of all disgusting things, a dead cockroach at the side of the coach. In order to sleep, we had to turn off the a/c and the fan so we could get some peace and quiet and use the towels given to cover a few of the windows that did not have curtains or drapes.

When we woke up in the morning, there was black debris on the floor under the A/C. We shower in the cold water (hardly any warm water though we were the only one there). The grout was mildew and black. We went down to the office and lodged our complaints and were told that our complaints would be passed to the manager. We stayed out all day and when we got back to the hotel, the room had not been cleaned and the roach was still resting in the corner. We were so exhausted from the day’s activities we went to bed happily looking forward to leaving the hotel first thing in the morning. We got up early, packed our things took the towels from the room and took it to the office where my partner complained bitterly about the poor service and lack of concern for the guest.

Other than the view and the landscape, there is nothing good about this hotel.
Despite the fact that we have emailed the manager, we have not received a response to this date.

“Nature at its best”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 May 2011

I travelled with my mother for some r& r in my absolute favorite part of Jamaica. This waqs my first time staying there as I ususally stay at Goblin Hill when in Port Antonio. Fern Hill has the most amazing views of the coastline. The staff were very friendly and the room was clean. If you however looking for a luxury resort stay this is not the place for you. It is clean, charming and rustic with nature abounding at every turn. I woke up early every morning and took my pillow out to the over sized balcony and watched the sun coming up over the mountains and listened to the birds in the lush foliage. The rooms are spacious but are a bit outdated but I did mot mind....I came there for the veiws and the gorgeous sorroundings. The food at the restaurant was absolutely delicous and my mother who is a picky eater enjoyed it very much.

I would definitely recommend a stay a Fern Hill Club.

“Nice view from the pool side”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 March 2011

I spent 3 days with a friend and my teenage son at this hotel back in January. I don't believe the price was value for money. The room was nice with a double and single bed. The TV channels wasn't working when we arrived, so we had to contact reception who sent someone over to look at it, in the end they managed to sort out the aerial. Even though 3 of us was booked in the room we only had two towels. The room was equipped with mosquito nets at the windows and the doors leading to the balcony, however we didn't realised they were big holes in the nets, so the mosquitos could still get in. By the time we noticed it was too late as I was bitten really bad on my legs and had to go chemist for treatment. The breadfast was a joke, we had a tiny tiny dumplin, muffin and eggs that looked like it was cooked in the microwave. We wasn't impressed with breakfast, but I guess thats what you get for complementary!

“Beautiful, great staff but rooms need renovating”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2011

The two best things about this hotel is the amazing view and the great super attentive and friendly staff.

The rooms are comfortable but in sore need of renovating.

We had dinner which was good and breakfast which was also good. My main criticism though is that they served instant coffee with the Jamaican breakfast. Nowadays this just wont do. Buy a $20 coffee machine and it would be a lot better.

This hotel could easily charge double or even triple if the rooms were renovated.

“RIP OFF”

I booked at this hotel for a weekend in October 17 to 19.
I called the hotel on October 11 and asked if I could cancel, I was told if no one booked the villa I would be liable for a charge of one night.
I called and spoke with a Ms. Holgate the owner/ manager and she said I would be notified if there no one had booked , I requested that I be contacted in the event that the villa was still available and would make the trip..
I called again and was told that they had a booking for the villa and that I would not be liable for the charge of one night by the reservation clerk Sonita. I noticed that my credit card was charged for the villa and a request was made to the hotel to have this refunded.
I was provided with a cancellation number by the clerk.
This was not done even with the villa being rented to someone else.

Be careful this hotel should not be given your credit card number.
