Review:
If you are looking for a great value, a nice, clean place with a great view, the most friendly people, and don't mind being just a little away from all the action, Hilltop Villas is the place for you! We loved it!
This is a small hotel - only 15 rooms total, run by two girls, Christine and Cheryl. VERY nice people, they checked on us personally every day to see how we were doing, what we were up to, and if we needed *anything*.
We stayed in one of two "penthouse" suites. On the third floor (top floor). Has a really large balcony with a breathtaking view overlooking the ocean. The patio has a small table and chairs for having a romantic dinner outside. The room had a king sized four-poster bed, dresser and night stands. We also had a nice kitchenette with hotplate, minifridge, and sink. We never cooked though, you can eat around Negril very inexpensively if you know where to look! We did keep some of the wonderful Jamaican drink "Ting" in our fridge though!!
Room was very large and roomy. We felt very safe, never had any problems whatsoever.
They kept the room very clean, changed all the bed linens EVERY DAY! They don't even do that in the states. One tip we learned though, in Jamaica it is customary for the locals to bring their own washcloths when staying in a hotel, so the hotel only provides hand towels and bath towels (as many as you need). We also had all the large green pool/beach towels we ever needed, with no hassles about signing them out like some other resorts make you do.
The resort has a nice pool & hot tub which we used nearly every night before heading off to bed. From the pool you can hear some reggae music playing from a distant local club, which really made you feel like you were in Jamaica. The pool has a small bar if you wanted drinks.
The grounds were immaculate and very tropical. We saw a guy working on the flower beds almost every day.
We were there for nine nights so we needed some laundry done. The hotel did them for us for no charge, just a tip to the housekeeper for her time and trouble. The laundry came back smelling fresh and neatly folded in no time flat.
The hotel is located on top of the hill just as you head to the West End. Go just past Sunshine Plaza (where the Hi-Lo supermarket is) and take your next left - Hermitage Rd (not labeled). Go up the hill and the hotel is on your right.
Very short drive (we rented a car) to all the places on 7 mile beach and the other resorts/restaurants on the cliffs.
We did a lot of SCUBA diving while in Negril - check out the dive sites "Throne Room" and the shallow sunken airplane. Magnificant dives with lots of colorful fish, coral, sea turtles, eels, stingrays, shrip, crabs, etc!
While there be sure to eat at Three Dives (featured on the tv show "Amazing Race" and Kuyaba) both have EXCELLENT food.
Would I go back - you bet. Great value for well under $500 for NINE NIGHT STAY!
