Once again, I've just returned from a wonderfully relaxing & fun visit to Moonlight Villa on the West End Road (One Love Drive), the cliffs section, of Negril. I love, love, LOVE this place!! I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else - my search for the perfect spot in Negril has been over since I found Moonlight Villa. It has everything that I seek in a comfortable, yet convenient place close to everything that I need.
The property consists of 4 large, spacious units, all facing the sea, with own verandah in a private alcove, and one 2-room house w/ private kitchen that is next to the road (although it does not face the sea, as it's set back a bit, it is only 10 paces to a seaview). I always stay in unit #2, the middle unit on the lower floor. In my times there, I have NEVER heard a peep out of my neighbors, as the building is extremely well-built w/ thick walls, so your privacy is guaranteed. Inside each room are: one extremely comfortable kind-sized bed, one twin bed, a loveseat w/ coffee table, ample lamps, dresser w/ mirror, TV (never turned that on!), half-frig (larger than a mini-fridge & has an excellent freezer), large coffee-maker, all of the plates, bowls, large mugs & different sizes of glasses and silverware that you need & both ceiling & large floor fans. However, as the slatted windows open wide (or you can just leave your slatted french-style doors open), you will receive plenty of cooling tradewinds coming in off the sea. I have never been too hot here! The bathroom is excellent; there is ample room to put your toiletries on the counter next to the sink, the toilet flushes well, you get ample toilet paper & the water pressure (includes consistently hot water) is EXCELLENT. Your verandah includes a wicker loveseat w/ wicker coffee table & a large wicker chair in a private alcove.
There is no stress at Moonlight Villa; every morning there, I rise, make my tea & either enjoy it on the verandah or in one of the chairs right at the cliff's edge (you are separated from the sea by a low wall there, so no danger). I will sit there, gazing at the sea, listening to the soothing sound of the approach & pull of the waves coming into the cliff walls below, watching the Magnificent Frigates & fishermen & just reveling in the fantastic weather. Ready for breakfast?? No problem! Just walk a mere 15 yards right next door to Pee Wee's, one of the very best places in Negril for breakfast. There, Elvis will whip you up eggs cooked any style, omlettes, the best French Toast on the planet, whole-wheat toast, bacon, ham or sausage, coffee or tea, or even a Bacon-and-Tomato Sandwich that rivals any I've ever had, all at an affordable price. There too, you can dine al fresco while looking at the sea. Back at Moonlight Villa, you can hang out in the yard & choose either sun or shade, sitting in a chair reading a book or the Jamaica Gleaner or lying on a barca-lounger, and all of the outdoor furniture has very comfortable pads! One of the best daytime naps I've ever had was there! Maybe, though, you'll want to go swimming or snorkeling! It is a mere 20 steps down to the sea, where you can use one of the property's floaties to lie on in the sea or snorkel to your heart's content (I have seen rays & octopuses there, as well as the usual colorful fish). When you're done, exit from the water easily using the sturdy ladder.
You can also easily visit Negril's gorgeous white-sand powdery Seven-Mile Beach via a quick taxi ride during the day for swimming or the evening for the night life. The West End Road is also known for some good nightlife too, especially the Negril Escape One Love Concert Series every Tuesday night (during certain months of the year).
After showering, there are many, many places nearby for all kinds of different food; jerk chicken, seafood, lobster, Ital/vegetarian, Italian, etc. One of the other reasons I love staying at Moonlight Villa is that there is a wonderful little grocery right across the street, Lance's "L & M" Market, where you can get just about anything you need, in a very friendly atmosphere. Also right across the street are the No Limit Bar (the domino-playing guys every evening provide much entertainment!) and Millie's Fresh-Squeezed Juices.
What really sets Moonlight Villa apart from other places in my mind is the owner, Debbie, and the employees, Omar (grounds-keeper & maintenance) and Heather (housekeeper - the very BEST I've even seen!), and Debbie's family of dogs who not only are very friendly to you as a guest (if you're like me, you REALLY miss your dogs while on vacation, and they're happy to oblige in getting you your "dog-fix"!), but also the best security system you could ever have. Nothing gets by these dogs! They carefully scrutinize any folks coming onto the property & of course announce their arrival for you. Three weeks ago, I had a medical emergency, and Debbie was incredibly helpful in making it much easier on me to handle this. She offered, above & beyond the call of duty, to run two errands for me & also offered her assistance in any way. You will also be highly impressed by Debbie's community- & civic-minded stance & actions; she assists the local folks in Negril in MANY ways, from volunteering at the St. Anthony's Soup Kitchen, to mentoring several children she has met, to informing the towns people about the recent free spay-and-neuter clinic held in October in Negril & providing transportation so that many dogs could receive their surgeries. Debbie has a wonderful heart & I am thankful that she is on this Earth!
You will be extremely pleased with your visit to Moonlight Villa. There is also free wireless so that you can "stay connected." If you have any questions for me, please feel free to e-mail me to ask them.
