“My "home away from home;" the best-kept secret in Negril!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2011

Once again, I've just returned from a wonderfully relaxing & fun visit to Moonlight Villa on the West End Road (One Love Drive), the cliffs section, of Negril. I love, love, LOVE this place!! I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else - my search for the perfect spot in Negril has been over since I found Moonlight Villa. It has everything that I seek in a comfortable, yet convenient place close to everything that I need.

The property consists of 4 large, spacious units, all facing the sea, with own verandah in a private alcove, and one 2-room house w/ private kitchen that is next to the road (although it does not face the sea, as it's set back a bit, it is only 10 paces to a seaview). I always stay in unit #2, the middle unit on the lower floor. In my times there, I have NEVER heard a peep out of my neighbors, as the building is extremely well-built w/ thick walls, so your privacy is guaranteed. Inside each room are: one extremely comfortable kind-sized bed, one twin bed, a loveseat w/ coffee table, ample lamps, dresser w/ mirror, TV (never turned that on!), half-frig (larger than a mini-fridge & has an excellent freezer), large coffee-maker, all of the plates, bowls, large mugs & different sizes of glasses and silverware that you need & both ceiling & large floor fans. However, as the slatted windows open wide (or you can just leave your slatted french-style doors open), you will receive plenty of cooling tradewinds coming in off the sea. I have never been too hot here! The bathroom is excellent; there is ample room to put your toiletries on the counter next to the sink, the toilet flushes well, you get ample toilet paper & the water pressure (includes consistently hot water) is EXCELLENT. Your verandah includes a wicker loveseat w/ wicker coffee table & a large wicker chair in a private alcove.

There is no stress at Moonlight Villa; every morning there, I rise, make my tea & either enjoy it on the verandah or in one of the chairs right at the cliff's edge (you are separated from the sea by a low wall there, so no danger). I will sit there, gazing at the sea, listening to the soothing sound of the approach & pull of the waves coming into the cliff walls below, watching the Magnificent Frigates & fishermen & just reveling in the fantastic weather. Ready for breakfast?? No problem! Just walk a mere 15 yards right next door to Pee Wee's, one of the very best places in Negril for breakfast. There, Elvis will whip you up eggs cooked any style, omlettes, the best French Toast on the planet, whole-wheat toast, bacon, ham or sausage, coffee or tea, or even a Bacon-and-Tomato Sandwich that rivals any I've ever had, all at an affordable price. There too, you can dine al fresco while looking at the sea. Back at Moonlight Villa, you can hang out in the yard & choose either sun or shade, sitting in a chair reading a book or the Jamaica Gleaner or lying on a barca-lounger, and all of the outdoor furniture has very comfortable pads! One of the best daytime naps I've ever had was there! Maybe, though, you'll want to go swimming or snorkeling! It is a mere 20 steps down to the sea, where you can use one of the property's floaties to lie on in the sea or snorkel to your heart's content (I have seen rays & octopuses there, as well as the usual colorful fish). When you're done, exit from the water easily using the sturdy ladder.

You can also easily visit Negril's gorgeous white-sand powdery Seven-Mile Beach via a quick taxi ride during the day for swimming or the evening for the night life. The West End Road is also known for some good nightlife too, especially the Negril Escape One Love Concert Series every Tuesday night (during certain months of the year).

After showering, there are many, many places nearby for all kinds of different food; jerk chicken, seafood, lobster, Ital/vegetarian, Italian, etc. One of the other reasons I love staying at Moonlight Villa is that there is a wonderful little grocery right across the street, Lance's "L & M" Market, where you can get just about anything you need, in a very friendly atmosphere. Also right across the street are the No Limit Bar (the domino-playing guys every evening provide much entertainment!) and Millie's Fresh-Squeezed Juices.

What really sets Moonlight Villa apart from other places in my mind is the owner, Debbie, and the employees, Omar (grounds-keeper & maintenance) and Heather (housekeeper - the very BEST I've even seen!), and Debbie's family of dogs who not only are very friendly to you as a guest (if you're like me, you REALLY miss your dogs while on vacation, and they're happy to oblige in getting you your "dog-fix"!), but also the best security system you could ever have. Nothing gets by these dogs! They carefully scrutinize any folks coming onto the property & of course announce their arrival for you. Three weeks ago, I had a medical emergency, and Debbie was incredibly helpful in making it much easier on me to handle this. She offered, above & beyond the call of duty, to run two errands for me & also offered her assistance in any way. You will also be highly impressed by Debbie's community- & civic-minded stance & actions; she assists the local folks in Negril in MANY ways, from volunteering at the St. Anthony's Soup Kitchen, to mentoring several children she has met, to informing the towns people about the recent free spay-and-neuter clinic held in October in Negril & providing transportation so that many dogs could receive their surgeries. Debbie has a wonderful heart & I am thankful that she is on this Earth!

You will be extremely pleased with your visit to Moonlight Villa. There is also free wireless so that you can "stay connected." If you have any questions for me, please feel free to e-mail me to ask them.

“ARE YOU KIDDING ME?”

agree.Debbie is not porfessional.THATS WHY IT FEELS LIKE HOME. Plans I had fell through and Deb took me in and made what started out to be a nightmare into the most rewarding 2 weeks ive ever spent.I was treated like part of the family.Even the dogs had sleep overs.I never felt safer. As for cleaning... I dont beleive you and if you want professional sevice, my suggestion to you is go to Sandals. I dont need anyone to run after me and any time I did request something, they were always quick to respond. Its an at home feeling.when I made a mess in my room, I cleaned it.and my room was cleaned very well by Debs honorable staff also. Bottom line is IF YOU WANT A PLACE WHERE YOU FEEL SAFE AND AT HOME AT FANTASTIC PRICES Go to Moonlight villa and you wont regret it.Check out pictures and this http://www.youtube.com/my_videos_edit?ns=1&video_id=WgqR25ZRgL0&next=%2Fmy_videos

“Great Room - Great Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 March 2010

Well appointed rooms with a beautiful view (even from the bed). The only thing I lacked was more time, if I was able to return tomorrow I would. Housekeepers Joy and Paulette were very pleasant and helpful. Debbie was a wonderful hostess and the security, Louie, Rebel and Zsa Zsa made it feel even more like home. I enjoyed PeWee's right next door and No Limit just across the street. Great people that I will never forget and hope to see again soon.
2 thumbs up for Moonlight Villa.............I'll be back

“No pressure....Home away from home!”

Just got back fom a 28 day stay at Moonlight Villa and we are happy! Debbie and her staff treated us with nothing but kindness and were very accomodating. We had a few issues with a broken toilet which were fixed right away (minor) and otherthan that all was well.

The location of Moonlight Villa is very good in respect to location of restaurants and bars as required and it isn't too far from town either, about a relaxing 20 minute walk or so, or a short $100.00J taxi ride (per person). I would recommend walking being as you can stop for a beverage at your leisure and there is a lot to see along the way

As to the staff at MLV, they are awsome. Omar,Kwako (sp?), Paulette and Joy were all very helpfull as needed and friendly too!

If you want a fairly priced place to stay that is run with a family type of attitude where you can feel at home, then stay here!!!!! Debbie treated us very well and we indeed do consider her a new found fiend. I for one sure enjoyed the morning coffee breaks with her and the other guests as well. As far as I could tell, after talking to every guest that stayed there while we were there, each and every one really enjoyed their stay.

It isn't the Taj Mahal by any means but it is a great place with a great location run by a great lady. Oh yeah, the sunsets are stellar!!!

“Nice room, unprofessional owner~”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2009

I chose this venue after I had to change the dates of my trip due to a family emergency. I have to say that the room I had was nice. The view of the sea was irie and the room had a nice CD-player, small frig, coffee maker and tv.
I was picked up by Debbie at the airport and we had a somewhat pleasant ride to Negrils West End.
The very next day, I was given the "cold shoulder" by Debbie. She had many friends in, and since I have been traveling to Jamaica for over 22 years, I went off on my own and ignored the moody host. Soon the place dwindled down as some left. A lovely woman from California arrived and we quickly became friends. She also noticed the nasty behavior of Debbie and asked if I stayed there before or if I had known her, to which I replied "no" to both questions. Soon she received the exact same treatment, but we manged to just keep the irie vibes and stay clear of all negativity. We took in a show on the beach and myself another on the West End.
As other guest checked in for 3 days, I became aware that everyone was told that they were allowed to use Debbie's computer which was located on the second floor. I was told in a very loud and rude tone that I was not allowed on the second floor, and that "this is where I live and you are not welcome here....no disrespect." No disrespect???? Did I really hear this? I came here to relax and take some time for myself after caring for my brother strickened with cancer who died 2 weeks before my arrival. The owner was well aware and made no effort to be at the bare minimum, cordial. The others noticed and soon befriended me as they had been through the same circumstances. One Saturday I spilled a bit of coffee on my floor and went looking for a mop. Joy was on duty cleaning every room that day....except of course mine! She handed me the mop and I ended up mopping my own room! I was never given fresh towels even after 7 days had gone by. I had to ASK for clean towels and the rest of the time, I washed them myself in the bucket outside. My room was cleaned the day before I checked out and only after I told the "helper" to do this. I had tipped her too prematurely and learnied a lesson from this error.
I did briefly meet the "silent partner" of this property, named Sandi. Sandi was just a huge smile and a much nicer person than her partner. My California friend and I walked up and down the West End, chatting with shop owners and visiting old friends. There was a very nice local who made an amzing large plate of chicken and rice with pumpkin and ackee. We eventually got him to add fish to his menue and business was indeed flourishing. Just so you all know, Tony does deliver! I also have to make everyone aware that the corner of the road this villa is located at was very busy and noisy as the yard is a little bit too close to the road for peace and quiet when trying to sleep. I also took a route taxi to Bourbon Beach as most days the sea was too rough to get into the sea on the cliff end.
I did read all the reviews on TRIPADVISOR before I booked my room and was taken aback by the exact opposite behavior than what I read. The vibes in this yard were just plain TERRIBLE. I will for now and evermore, always rent from a JAMAICAN. They treat all the guests the same, no partisanship. I was troubled at how very unproffessional and insensitive this woman was and how she turned on any guest that befriended me.
The woman from California checked out on December 8th, leaving a full 3 1/2 weeks EARLY due to the bad vibes, while I chose to just pack and move to TOBY'S in MoBay.
I was very happy with this move and my trip took a turn for the better once I was completely surrounded by locals. I will be writing a review of TOBY'S next and it will be a lovely review!
