“Lovely place”

We stayed in one of the Garden Villas for just over a week. The hotel staff are really good - friendly and helpful. The room was nice, very comfortable and with a good little kitchen. We were in the first room, which is nearest the road so it was a little noisy.

The beach is right next to the Villas, and is great. Nice sand and perfect sea. The only problem is that you do get hassled for stuff all day long. It's important to say 'no' - don't put off people as they will remember and come back. If you want to do any excursions speak to the staff, don't get them from people on the beach. BHV is located at the quiet end of the beach, away from all the big hotels, which for us was great.

It's a short walk into town to the bank and supermarket, both of which are fine, although expect an amount of hassle.

The bar and restaurant are good but the food is relatively expensive. The Jamaican specialities are all worth trying.

“Will definitely return to BHV!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2009

I loved BHV. We stayed in the Jungle Villa for the first 5 days and then moved to the Sunsuite Villa. The Jungle villa was HUGE! 2 bedrooms with a King and twin Bed in each room and bedroom has it's on Bathroom. The living also has a futon. The Kitchen came with fridge, blender, pots, pans, skillets, and all utensils. Each bedroom has a TV and so does the living room. There was nothing more we needed. Each bedroom had a patio attached with hammocks. There were also plenty of windows. I am definitely going back to this place. The Sunsuite was nice also, not as many windows and definitely smaller but it was ok.

the restaurant food wasn't that good to me and a lil pricey. But other restaurants are only steps away. Check out Carlos at the Bar, makes great drinks especially RUM PUNCH!

“Great stay with no worries no problems. Want to go back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 July 2009

We were two families (total of 12) with children ranging from 7-17 that rented the beach house level 1 and 2. We were right on the beach so we had no worries when the kids wanted to go get breakfast or go swim in the fabulous warm and clear water while we had our coffee on the terrace. They made us feel like we were the only people there. The villas are basic but comfortable.

The staff at BHV were incredible! Tip them well! They called us all by names including our children.
Keion is the head of security and is truly 'the man". He helped us with everything and ANYTHING. I took pictures with him and our families because he truly became our friend.
Bull was fabulous and would set up our chairs on the beach for us everyday.
Nadine, Stacey, Georgia, Leroy were our amazing bar/restaurant staff! We would hang out and play cards at night and Leroy played Yahtzee and Bogle with our 7 year olds. If you wanted your drinks stronger (although they were strong enough for me) they would accomodate graciously. The food was good. I did find the food in Negril to be pricey no matter where we ate.

FOOD:
Bourbon Beach had the best and spiciest Jerk Chicken.
Kuyaba was good but really expensive.
Sweet Spice was good home cooking. Every kind of fish, beef, etc. We ordered the curried goat (cause the Jamaican's said it isn't a party if they don't serve curry goat). Didn't like it but had to try it. They do not serve alcohol.
Rick's Cafe is definitely a must visit for the cliff divers. I would recommend eating somewhere else. The cliff divers were amazing but got really testy with us because we didn't have our money out to pay them. They intentionally blocked us from watching one guy jump and said "that's because we didn't pay". I told him that my 7 year old daughter had a 20 in her hand to pay him but he blew it by not letting us watch.

Visited Y/S Falls which was gorgeous. It was a 1 1/2 drive but showed us the culture of Jamaica which we loved. The falls were beautiful with lush surroundings.

They vendors can be pushy and at night the ganja is flowing. You just have to say No Thank You and they leave you alone. The fruit lady is a must. She was our breakfast on the beach. Wonderful fresh mango, pineapple, papaya, avocado, sugar cane, etc.

“Great place to stay”

My husband son and I stayed in the Jungle 1 bedroom apt. It was spacious the bathroom was HUGE. The house keeper washed our dishes everyday. We had a private entrance to the second floor to our apt. No matter where we wanted to go doing the night or day taxie driver Nelison was our waiting at the front desk for us. Gave us great deal for rides to Ricks Cafe or The Original Mayfield Falls( which was a 2 hr ride inland). The have cable with american stations so you wont miss your favorite shows. One problem we did have was we went during the rainy season so we didnt have much sun, when there is no sun there is no hot water. We took alot of cold showers.
There are alot of local shops just a 5 mins taxi ride away. The food was pretty good. But we did stick our refridgerator with food since we was ther for 5 days. It was the BEST villa on the 7 mile beach. I would stay there again.

“BHV - SunSuite”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 May 2009

We are so sad to be home from our wonderful vacation in Negril. The only bad moment was getting on the plane to come home.
The staff were wonderful. Hector took such good care of us. Everyone made sure that we had fresh fruit from the trees that grow on the property. The food at the restaurant was delicious but a little pricey, although it is at the same price range of other nice restaurants in negril. Try the pumpkin soup!
The most important thing I need to say in this review is about the SunSuite since we found limited information on it during our research. We traveled as 2 couples on a budget at found the room to be spacious and laid out well with the bathroom far from the bedrooms. One of the beds was small but we split the cost of the room accordingly. Sure the kitchen was poorly stocked with cooking utensils but it didn't stop us from cooking at least 3 dinners using fresh fish and fruits that came from property and the beach. The best surprise was the huge patio that they added in the last few months!!!
We went out twice with Noel and Jack, who can be found in the lot next door, on their boat snorkeling and fishing and they took great care of us! Also next door was Christian who just might be the best cook in Jamaica.
Overall, if you are used to the Ritz than by all means, stay at the Ritz. If you dont want to see the real Negril than stay at Sandals. We really enjoyed BHV.
Hector, Noel, Ingred, and everyone else!!!! You guys made our trip memorable. Thank you so much for answering our hundreds of questions and for making us feel like a part of the family.
