“Not for me”

Not for the faint hearted. This is more Motel than Hotel. Only managed to do 2 nights out of 4.

There is no sign outside the building, so we had to ask once we pulled into the grounds, The road is very poor more potholes than tarmac once you've turned off the main road onto Summerset Road.

The large car park was deserted as was the reception area, we had to knock and shout before the receptionist appeared after 5 minutes. we noticed the beer bottles littering the bushes as we made our way to our room, it looked as they had been there a while as there were many.

The first room we stayed in upstairs was a strange affair with one small dark room furnished with a large fridge and a sink with plates that had been used at some point in time turned down on the draining board! The bedroom was large, but the bed linen was covered in a fine white dust, we asked at reception for them to be changed and it was done quite promptly. The biggest disappointment was the bathroom which had broken tiles and discolouration to the bath area we did not feel happy using the bathroom and we asked for a change of room but where told the hotel was fully booked and there was one room that would be available the following evening.

The following evening we moved into a ground floor room adjacent to the pool, the room was much smaller and the bathroom in a better state of repair but there was an odd piece of furniture in the room that looked as though it had been left behind. The dust in that room was unbelievable it coated the wooden louvres on the bathroom door and also sat on the cutouts in the lamp which was on the wall over the bed! Please clean up your act Devine Destiny!!! The worst thing we experienced that 2nd night was the army of sandflies and mosquitoes that spent the night making a meal of us and that was when my partner decided enough was enough and we left the following day.

The hotel was deserted and we were told fully booked! We were informed that many of the rooms are rented out to Spanish workers who live on the premises leaving before sunrise and getting back at night. I witnessed them going out early one morning.

The receptionist asked us why we were leaving so early and we told her the mosquitoes had got the better of us, she said 'we have no control over that' alas it seems as though there is no control over many aspects of the hotel.

Devine Destiny NO my partner preferred to call it Devine Enemy!

Think carefully before booking budget it might not be worth it!

My husband and I were married at the DD during a week stay in March '06.
I cannot say enough about the friendliness and wonderful attitude of the staff.
Jamaica is a place best experienced outside of the "sandals" and "beaches" resorts. If that is your thing, go there, but if you want to experience the beauty of Jamaica and it's friendly people, stay somewhere like DD.
This hotel is 2 blocks from the main road, very quiet, yet convenient to the cliffside restaurants.
Free shuttle to the beach 2x/day during season.
EXCELLENT POOL.
lots of beautiful fruit trees and flowering shrubs on the property - you feel free to roam around the grounds enjoying the efforts of the gardening staff.
If we go to Negril again, I wouldn't consider staying anywhere but the DD.

“Relaxing and simple”

I had read reviews before I left on Devine Destiny and decided to stop by and see for myself. I booked an all inclusive vacation before I left, only because it was a slight difference as my flight would have been alone. This was my first time in Negril and second trip to JA in 3 months. What can I say but it is addicting! Well, I lasted 3 hrs in my all inclusive resort. I knew that it wasn't for me before I left but thought I would give it a try. To me its like a prison or being on vacation with my parents as a teenager. I like to come and go as I please and since I do know people down there I don't like the limitations in place at an all inclusive resort.

So I packed up and drove down to find Devine Destiny, which I had read up on online. It was night time when I arrived and to be honest I was a little skeptical. The place was pitch black and looked closed. Reception was deserted yes, but Boomblast to the rescue! So, we looked at the room first and for the price you can't complain. It's basic...what more do you need. I was pleased in the morning when I could finally see the grounds. They were beautiful. There was only one more couple there that I could tell, and yes the staff, I felt like we had the place to ourselves. It was great. Everyday I left when I returned my room had been cleaned. New towels daily...new sheets every 2 days. The only downfall was the blackouts. There is no back up source so we were in the dark for a minute...twice.

Sure there is no bar, or restaurant, but you can tell this was quite a place in its time. Boomblast is very helpful in this area, or you can walk up the road and get what you need at the little shop up the street (closes at 11pm) . Or jump inna taxi and for $100JA it will take you right to the middle of everything. If you are used to your AI's then this may not be the place for you. If you want to just relax with no hassle than it's the place to be. If I ever make it back to Negril, I will definitely make it back to Devine Destiny.

“Nightmare experience”

Would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Were booked to stay for 5 nights but only managed 1. Room was dirty and damp, bed linen thin, worn and unclean, pool was cloudy, only 2 other guests and several 'staff' living in the rooms. Reception was deserted, no sign of the restaurant and bars, just a makeshift room service arrangement. Only wildlife seen in the rounds was a hungry dog called Duchess. Best of all there had been no hot water for at least 2 months!!

Having visited many of jamaicas beach resorts, ( im lucky to have famly living in jamaica) we chose the divine destiny for our quiet time, not in the main resort but just up the road from Ricks Cafe, divers paradise. The ground floor room had two large beds, enough room for my large cases and we had a nice bath and shower. The room was cleaned daily and the sheets and towels changed every two days. You dont get that in the big hotels. Im going back to the destiny next week and it is costing 53 pounds sterling for seven nights im pleased to recomend this hotel. you will need to not expect tenderd gardens or livley nights but you will get friendly helpful staff and a jamaican welcome. however british you are chill out and dont be a snob and youll be fine....
