We celebrated our 31st wedding anniversary with a week in Negril. The cliff-side "Banana Shout" resort was charming and relaxing. The cliffs are definitely the "way to go" in Negril. The beach, we find, is too busy and commercial. Having a private cove to swim in and the stunning sunsets are perfect for a couple. We do suggest that Banana Shout do a bit of upgrading to the cottages. The towels are threadbare and the water pressure quite low. It was best to wash one's hair in the private shower under the cave, by the ocean. Be sure to take advantage of the excellent local food. We did lunch twice at the organic Ras Rody. Loved the callalou! Try "LTU" for a nice dinner, but prompt them for service. They were out of coffee one night! Who is out of coffee in Negri? They grow it in Jamaica. "Sips and Bites" is tasty, with excellent brown stew. It was harder to find "patties" than I thought, at least as far out as we were, but I did hear that Juicy Patties in town was the ticket. We will try that next time. We did a special dinner at "Catch a Falling Star" and it was lovely. Shrimp for sure. I cannot say enough about the staff at Banana Shout. Mr. Plug, Marianne, Milo, the "Mayor" of the West End, Miss Barbara, and Mr. Ashmann, who did a precious carving of a banana for my Christmas tree....so friendly and caring. Take time to hike up the 103 steps to the Lighthouse. Stunning. One Love Drive is off-beat, creative, and lively. Not a place for children. Not at all. But, if you don't want the typical "All Inclusive" experience and you DO want to live simply, eat good food, get back to nature, and focus on your loved one, then.... definitely look into Banana Shout ...it was #1 in the Lonely Planet Book, and is #1 in our book.
Room Tip: Go for the cottage closer to Rick's Cafe. It is more private. Folks can get a bit raucous in the...
