Our stay at the Sea Splash was phenomenal! The location can't be beat as you are literally steps away from the beach! The service was impeccable, although you do have to keep in mind everyone is on "Jamaica time". But we figured we're on vacation so what's the rush? The staff at the hotel made us feel like family and was very personable. The cuisine at Norma's was incredible; I highly recommend the jerk chicken/pork, salmon and the bruschetta. Trudy is the exec chef and she's very helpful. Oh and don't forget the blue mountain coffee and rum punch, the bartenders are great! Even though the food took a few minutes longer, we were having such a great time sipping on our delicious drinks and enjoying the scenery that we barely even noticed. We definitely got to experience a bit of Jamaican culture, which was fantastic. It was great to be surrounded by the warmth of the Jamaican people as soon as you step outside. There is a wonderful stand that sells red stripes and cocobread right next door. Yes, you will get approached to buy something at the beach, it's a standard. You can politely say "No thanks" and they'll leave you alone. I definitely recommend buying some fresh squeezed juice from Tony, and some fresh fruit from a little boy named Damar or his mother, who usually has a table set up just outside the hotel. The prices are good and there's nothing more dreamy than laying out on the beach sipping out of a coconut. You do not have to plan for anything.. before you finish thinking, "I'm interested in some watersports today" someone has already offered jet skiing, parasailing, and glass bottom boating. We recommend Fabian/Andy if you'd like to do some snorkeling or any watersports for that matter. Feel free to haggle, it is expected. Same goes with taxis. You can't walk anywhere without being offered a ride so keep that in mind. Also keep in mind that as annoying as some of the street hawkers seem, this is the way they earn their living. Tourism is Jamaica's #1 industry. Most of them will not rip you off and are pretty trustworthy because they understand that their income depends on the impression they make on the tourists. Once that trust is broken and the tourists are scared away, there go their paychecks. As one kind native summed it up, "One hand washes the other" We purchased some jewelry and handmade Jamaican trinkets from the street vendors. They are very authentic, and relatively cheap. The hotel is very safe and they have security guards there at night! The grounds are gorgeous...it feels like you're walking through a tropical garden! We soaked in lots of island flavor, and even got to see a reggae band! There are very few cons...I wouldn't recommend walking around after dark, especially along the road. And if you've never seen Jamaicans drive, you're in for a treat. :) The rooms were comfy and spacious, but nothing special. Our tv didn't work, but we were barely in our room anyway. And the hot tub wasn't hot at all, it was about the same temperature as the pool. We forgot to bring sunscreen too which was a bad idea. Overall, we had a fabulous trip to Negril and the Sea Splash was definitely the highlight! We cannot wait to return! :) Yah mon!
