My husband and I looked several places before booking our honeymoon and the reviews I read about the Couples Negril is what made my desicion for me. I couldn't find a review on any website with anything bad enough to keep me from choosing this resort.
We had an amazing time at the resort, but if you are younger I will warn you that the average age is around 50 and up. We are 21 and felt a little out of place, but the older people were extremely freindly and it actually made it more relaxing than being around a younger crowd.
My biggest bit of advise about our whole trip was that we booked the international airways flight which was 150ish a piece before we got there. When are arrived at the airport the company was waiting for us and took us straight to our private plane. It was tiny!!!! They pilot was extremely friendly and he flew us over the "special agriculture" and then right in front of our resort so we could get an air view. The entire flight was only 15 minutes long and we got a beautiful view of the country on the way! We talked with other couples who rode in the free bus from the aiport and it took them around 1 1/2 to 2 hours to get there! No thank you!
As far as the resort goes I thought everything was great there! The food was amazing and the service was for the most part great! There were a few workers who go ta little aggrevated with you asked them for something, but the majority of them were more than happy to assist you. The beach has a red flag service so you just put your red flag in the sand when you want another drink! During the day the only thing open all day is the beach grill and the food there is alright...I suggest waiting for the buffett to open, the food there is by far much much better! The best resturaunt is the Ohitete and you have to reserve your spot to eat there a day in advance. We ate there 2 times and it was amazing both times! The buffett has entertainment nearly every night so even if we didn't want to eat there for dinner we would eat somewhere else earlier and then go watch the show after while we had a drink. A must is the beach bonfire! They had their singer from Jamaica playing the guitar and singing and he was soooo good!!! I could have listened to him all night! Everyone was yelling please play more when he was done.
There is also a ton to choose from over by the watersports area and it is all completely free! We went on the snorkleing trip and it was good, but not near as pretty as a lot of other places I have snorkled and dived. It was worth going on for free though. Also, you can get lessons everyday at 9:30 and 1:30 for the other activities and they are pretty annoyed if you are late or ask after the time is up. If you can't make it on time one day I suggest you go another day so they are not rude. The workers over there are nice, but no where as nice as the other staff. The guy who works in the scuba shop told me I was stupid because I hooked my regulator up the wrong way because I have never had to hook my own up even though I have dived in Australia, NZ, Belize, and Mexico. I told him I have been on over more than 30 dives and I was sorry, but I have never had to do this before. He rolled his eyes and said this is ridiculous, how did you even get certified? I thought he was incredibly rude and I told him he should not treat someone who is paying as much money as I was to stay there. I am not saying this to complain (but beware of the grouchy old guy).
We also went on the shopping trip downtown and the cus to Rick's cafe. These are very much recommended by us. You have to jump at Rick's from the cliff or it is not a real experience! The downtown trip was god to get outside of the resort and see a different part of Negril, but be careful all of the shops are a rip off! We wen one day to the chukka zipleine tour and it was great too! I suggest you do that if you have the extra money! The guides were sooo friendly and it was so much fun!
One last thing to beware of before your tip here. You will be offered drugs like 10 millons times! It gets to the point where we were soo annoyed I just wanted to pay the people to shut up! I wish the reosrt would not allow people to walk in front and constantly try to sell you stuff. It ruins the relaxation of the trip. Some people think it is so wonderful, but hearing the same guy walk back and forth and yell parasailing jet ski and ciiiiagrettes cigars cigars cigars 50 times a day is annoying to me! also, make sure nothing valuable is left outside of your safe during the day. The maids enter your room several times daily and they stole my moms necklace I had borrowed which had a lot of meaning to me. I asked them if they found my heart necklace and they all said no, but I know for a fact it was on the counter in the bathroom. When we got home we searched all of our stuff to double check so I know it was stolen. that is very frustrating. We were having a perfect trip and I was so excited to look at going back, but stealing is almost enough for me to not want to go there again.
We had a great honeymoon, I would not have changed a thing, besides my necklace getting stolen. I would however suggest it for older couples. We are excited to either go back here or try out the couples swept away to compare them. Either way it was a great trip and we felt that we got our moneys worth! I had a blast!
