I stayed with my family of 4 for a week in Moves Cottage over the holidays this December. We had been to Negril several times before and stayed both in the cliffs and on the beach at resort hotels. Moves Cottage is in the cliffs of Negril, a few miles from the beach, which we liked, since the cliffs are beautiful and have some of the best restaurants. We liked getting away from the touristy beach area to a nice quiet cottage at night, and I thought that staying in a friendly neighboorhood like this was a great way to absorb the Jamaican culture.
The cottage has two bedrooms and a large kitchen/living room area with futons, and one bathroom. It suppose it could sleep about 6 to 8 people comfortably. Everything was wonderfully clean when we arrived and John, the owner, cleaned and changed the sheets and towels. The kitchen has a gas oven/stove, microwave, a coffee maker, blender, and a refridgerator/freezer. Also provided were pots and pans and other cooking utensils. I was great because it was fully stocked, just like home, even down to the sugar for coffee.
The tv just got two local channels, but now there is a nice variety of DVD's there, and it was great to pop in a movie and make some popcorn after coming back tired from a day in the sun at the beach. Also, the living room/kitchen and the larger bedroom both have nice electric air conditioners, which easily cooled the cottage pretty quickly.
The yard is beautiful, and we enjoyed sitting on the veranda taking in the warm air in the mornings. There are a few mini-marts and many small cafe's that are just a short walk away on the cliff road. It was nice to walk and have a nice breakfast or lunch and stock up on snacks. We walked to the Negril lighthouse one day, which was beautiful, and also to Rick's Cafe to jump from the cliff.
Overall, we really didn't miss staying on the beach, because its very easy and reasonable to catch a cab to the beach at any time. We really enjoyed having all the added amenities of a cottage, rather than your average hotel room. It is great to have the option to cook your own meal or blend a drink. Don't shy away from Moves Cottage because its not a popular resort, because its really a great property and offers way more for your money.
