We stayed in the Poinciana one bedroom Villa from Jan 13th to the 22nd.
If you are able to book this room, you will not be disappointed (the pictures on the website do not do it justice). From the moment we walked in with special touches we knew it was going to be a unique stay (and those special touches didn’t end after check in). In our opinion, Poinciana is probably the best room on the property; but all accommodations looked great (we got to look inside most of the other villas). Our room was huge overlooking the ocean (highlight of every night was watching the sunset from our private patio).
First off, we must mention the best part of the vacation. Titanya, our private butler was outstanding. If there is an “employee of the month” award she would be a candidate every month. We were not really looking forward to having a butler, we just wanted to sit back and relax. It didn’t take long for Titanya to grow on us; she was the cheerful person we looked forward to seeing first thing in the morning and the last person to ensure we had an evening planned at the end of her day (she did not leave until she was satisfied we were “ok”). She had a knack of being there when we needed her but gave us space to have our alone romantic time. She was a huge part of the reason our vacation stay was so wonderful.
The grounds to the resort are absolutely breathtaking and although we both love the beach and have always done destinations with a beach, we truly did not miss not having one at the cliffs (the cliffs was a great change). Our original plan was to leave the resort every 2nd day and go to 7-mile beach – needless to say, we only went to the beach once! Although we did plan some trips off the resort for the day/dinner, our main interest was staying at the resort to enjoy what we had right there – our villa, an amazing pool, outdoor gym, tanning by the cliffs, and just a short walk to the “bakery” for homemade Jamaican patties.
The food at the resort was the best value in all of Negril. Food quality was as good as any other restaurant in the area but the price was actually a little cheaper (especially if you take into consideration cab fair). I think we tried most items on the menu, and didn’t have a bad dish. The Jerk items were very hot and spicy but definitely bearable if you washed it down with a cold Red Stripe. All Jamaican items were delicious. The surprise on the menu was the “steak”, we live in Alberta, Canada and are used to high quality Beef. Never thought a “steak” in Jamaica would compare to our Alberta beef, but it was tender, juicy, thick and full of flavor. We were usually served by Tamara, Tracey or Rayon; who always greeted us by name (not sure how they do that!). They were genuinely friendly and willing to please and get to know us during our stay. We now what Rayon was referencing when he said the “Best was in the West” – it’s Moon Dance Resort on the Western Part of Negril! These are just a few of the employees at Moon Dance, we do not want to single anyone out because every employee scheduled during our stay came up to us to introduce themselves and have a chat (including Managers, Richard and Richard). Our private romantic dinner in the cave was a highlight… Guys, if you want to score major points with your Miss/Mrs, do yourself a favor and book at least one of these during your stay. BTW, all the resort rooms are just steps away from the both restaurants.
The resort was on the small side, total max occupancy is well below 100 guests. When we were there, we counted more staff than guests, this is a huge plus when it comes to feeling pampered on Vacation. We were in Jamaica (Ochos Rios) twice and stayed at Couples both times and enjoyed the quiet atmosphere (200 guests). There was no comparison with this trip – we felt like we had booked the resort for ourselves!
This was to be our 3rd and last trip to Jamaica, but we now find ourselves thinking about our trip back to Jamaica in 2013!
