“A GREAT BEACH HOTEL”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 March 2011

We stayed at the Mariposa from 2/26/11 to 3/05/11. We arrived after 5 p.m. and the office was closed. No problem Mon! A nice lady at the on premises Italian restaurant came up and gave us our keys, and said don't worry about the paperwork until tomorrow. That was easy check-in for sure. We are 2 couples and each had studio apartments #5 and #7. Sitting on our ground floor patios each day, and drinking morning coffee, we could see the ocean through the gates to the beach. This small, clean hotel was in the middle of the 7 mile beach. Easy access to food & drinks. We ate one evening at the Italian Restaurant on premises, food was ok, but compared to the other venues a little pricey for our budget. The studio rooms were plenty spacious with a queen bed and overhead fan, with a refrigerator and sink, TV and a safe. The room was cleaned daily and the housekeepers do a great job. We had plenty of hot water and water pressure. We slept with the windows open and never used the air conditioner.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Mariposa and will definitely stay there again. Since this is a small hotel, there were plenty of beach chairs and our beach area was certainly not crowded. After hours, Tony's Hut is next door to enjoy the beverage of your choice!

“Hidden Gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2010

Great value hotel right on the beach in Negril. Great Staff working in the restaurant, very helpful and chatty. Manager not so friendly to the workers, but luckily she's not there very often. We upgraded to the superior King size room, at 80 bucks a night, what a bargain. Beautiful spot!!

“Tops - a real beach bargain”

After having "roughed" it at another place down the beach for 5 years, we finally upgraded to Mariposa and for two years haven't been disappointed. The rooms are clean, have A/C, and cable. The mini fridge is extremely helpful in this climate. Mariposa actually has enough beach chairs for their guests. The security is wonderful - guards at the street and the beach, locked gates at night. It made us feel extremely safe.
The beach is right out your door. The beautiful trees and foliage around the buildings make it extremely cozy.
Service is also good.
We did have an ant issue, but I simply bought some spray in town and it eliminated the problem. Considering the climate, this did not surprise us.
We love Mariposa and are already booked again for this year!

“Saved us from White Sands, that's about the best thing I can say”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2009

The room we stayed in for 2 nights was very tacky and old and needed to be renovated. The bed was uncomfortable, the linens were at least 50% polyester and VERY uncomfortable, and the bathroom was straight out of the late 70s/early 80s. No Wi-fi anywhere, and unable to change money... BUT it saved us from the monstrosity that is the White Sands. In addition, we had cable TV, a kitchenette, larger mini fridge, and a room safe. I still wouldn't choose to stay here again, b/c in essence it is almost a dump, but getting away from White Sands was amazing. The beach is nice and seemed more private. The restaurant was fine for breakfast. The manager was somewhat rude and seemed to be mean to her staff. One of the waitresses forgot to charge my boyfriend for coffee one day and then asked us about it like 3 times. Yeah, not great service or accommodations. Stay somewhere else.

“Loved it yet again!!!”

My husband and I, along with my parents stayed at Mariposa once again this October. This was my 3rd stay at this property. We were married there a year ago. When we arrived, our room was all decorated for our anniversary, which happened to be the day that we arrived. As usual, all of the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The food at the restaurant was great, and the rooms were perfect. We plan on going back in February for another week. Can't wait!!!
