We booked this hotel purely based on the fact that it is was not a massive hotel with thousands of people and that it only offered breakfast as opposed to all inclusive hotels. When we visit a country we like to experience and explore the country. An all inclusive hotel, for me personally, could be anywhere in the world. They are usually all the same.
After booking it we started reading reviews, (I know, a bit late) and to be honest we got a bit worried. Theft, unsafe, dirty, etc. We decided to go anyway, we always had the option to leave and find a better hotel on location.
Looking back this was the best hotel we could have booked!
The hotel and rooms are no 5 star hotel but clean and definitely safe. We had rooms with balconies. The view was absolutely breathtaking. The beach at the hotel is amazing, very beautiful. Yes a cruiseship docks two days a week but its far away and actually quite interesting to see. The breakfast is very simple, bread, cereal, jam, butter, fruit, pastry tea and coffee. You can however order (not too expensive) other dishes such as eggs, pancakes, french toast, jamaican breakfast etc.You can also have breakfast elsewhere which brings me to the location of this hotel.
The location is perfect, walking distance (5 min) from all shops, restaurants, markets, and cafes. Once you exit the hotel grounds you can go right or left. Right takes you to the tourstic restaurants, shops etc and left takes you to the real Jamaica. We loved it! Ochio rios also has other beaches, absolutely beautiful. Some walking distance others for a fair price by taxi. We did many excusions and saw alot.
The swimming pool at the hotel is basically for kids, but who needs a pool when you have the ocean. The bar closes at 23:00 but all guest are free to bring any food or drinks into all the hotel areas. So you can even go to the supermarket and get anything you like and have that for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The rooms dont have a fridge but you can rent one.
The only advice I can give is a course for the housekeeping to learn how to smile :)
I can go on and on, what can I say, Jamaica had stolen my heart and I'm sure Rooms had a great part in that.
