We visited Couples Tower Isle the first week of February.
Airport Transfer: there is a small lounge outside arrivals where you wait for the bus. We were disappointed at the look of the Couples arrivals lounge compared to the Sandals lounge. We took an early flight to get here, only thing available at the lounge was draft beer. Would have liked a snack after a long trip and with still another couple hour drive ahead of us. I was jealous of the Sandals receiving area.
Hotel: Check in was easy, greeting was friendly with drinks from the bar. Hotel lobby is very pretty, with doors right out to the ocean. We stayed in Ocean Deluxe room, above the gym in block 2. I would agree with earlier posts that the carpet in the hallways are ripped and a hazard for my wife wearing heels at night. Room had very nice ocean view, room was a normal beach room you would expect. Staff was very nice to stock our mini bar with what we wanted as soon as we arrived.
Pools: pools were clean, but water was cold. Often times it was hard to find a clean beachtowel in the bins by the pool. Swim up pool bar only stayed open til six. And had limited selection. Found it odd and annoying that the main bar and pool bar had completly different selection of alcohol.
Tower Isle: this was one of the main reasons we selected this resort, and we were very disappointed by the overall experience. Resort staff always said weather was too bad to go out to the island (sign always said island would open at nine, but the staff never even attempted to start cleaning or stocking island til 1pm). Saturday during our stay island opened at 1:30. When we got out there the bar had not been set up, there was not even a staff member on the island. Guests went through the bar on their own to see if there was anything to serve on their own. We asked for a bartender/beer repeatedly, absolutely no attempt was made to accommodate. There were about 20 people on the island. The island closed at 3:00 pm for a wedding, and the staff had no problem getting alcohol, chairs, people to and from the island. It was completely ridiculous the island wasn't set up earlier. General manager should be responsible for having the island ready to open at 9am like stated on daily events list and be ready for when the weather breaks. We were here for four days and got to the island three times, but only for a total of about three hours, but we would have spent all day out there if we had been allowed.
Island experience: once getting to the island, you have time to get situated, find chairs and get a drink before getting au natural. We liked that you were not permitted to wear bathing suits, and we did see some people asked to go back to the mainland. Taking a picture from the top of tower isle of the resort was beautiful. On the right there is a long deck area for sunbathing which was nice having the waves crash up. Swim up bar was clean and nice to have tables in the water. There is no beach area on the island but a couple places to go in the ocean. Bathroom facility was lacking, sink wasn't working, needs updating.
Public areas: main bathrooms throughout the resort were always clean and looked updated. These were useful to not have to walk back to your room.
Food: breakfast room service was always on time and good. Breakfast buffet was very good as well with a wide selection. Lunch buffet was outstanding quality for buffet food. We try to eat on the healthy side and there was always healthy options like grilled fish and veggies. Eight Rivers - we ate here twice, menu changes daily. Portions were small but tasty, and they gave us no problem ordering an additional entree to split. The surf and turf on lobster night was delicious. Bayside - Asian restaurant has great setting on the water, beatiful view during dinner. Food was wonderful here too, again small portions but we were able to order more.
International gala buffet on Saturday night had a wide selection but was nothing to write home about, and service has a hard time keeping up with the volume. We waited 30 minutes for water and a drink.
Premium alcohol is rarely available. It seemed that they allowed one bottle of top shelf liquor a day per bar and once it was gone, that was it, back down to rail alcohol. If you're in the mood for a scavenger hunt, here are some good clues to help you out... Crown Royal can be found at the main bar and piano bar until about 9:30 pm daily, Grey Goose was found once at the piano bar, but never seen again through out our trip, when asked we were just told they were out. Absolute vodka is not available at swim up bar, and rarely at the main bar. No premium liquor at Tower Isle at all. Jack Daniels tends to last til about ten, after that there may be a little Jim Beam left for you.
Excursions: Staff seemed to hide behind the red and yellow flag to do a little work as possible, and have a few drinks in the water sports shed. My wife was really looking forward to snorkel, but every day we were told you couldn't see anything in the water. Found it shocking we could pay 90$ offsite to go snorkeling, but could not do it from the resort. We did the catamaran cruse, and due to the weather, they bused to a different location to depart from, which was a great alternative, why couldn't we do this for snorkeling??? Found it odd on the windy days we couldn't sail, aren't windy days the best days?
Nightlife: typical nightlife was a jamaican band of some sort. Which was nice for a bit, but after 11pm nightlife was lame. We are an active couple in our low thirties, and tired of the same playlist from the piano player at the piano bar past 11pm.
Staff; overall staff was great, room was cleaned daily and everyone was friendly.
We are experienced travelers, and at this pricing point we were very disappointed with our stay. Could be a great resort but needs to pay attention to details and requests of guests.
Room Tip: Ocean view deluxe. Good view of island from third floor.
