I travel the carribean as often as possible. I have never stayed in an all inclusive or 5 star hotel. I prefer the more mom and pop places to the large chain hotels. I travel this way for two reasons; cost and I get a much more feel of the local envirnment. With that being said I found Fishermans Point to be a typical carribean affordable hotel. It is not 5 star by any means but the accomodations and staff could not have been better. I ended up there because me and my family and friends missed our Carnival cruise ship out of Miami (we watched the boat pull out of port without us after car trouble in a remote area-boo Carnival no stars for you!). When our party ended up in Ocho Rios, we initially had arraingments to stay elsewhere. However our wonderful cab driver advised us that our planned hotel was in a bad area of town. He said he knew of a place that was close to the cruise port with 24 hour security in a good area. He showed us both hotels and we took his advice and stayed at FP. We were treated so well by all staff from the front desk to the security guards and even the gift shop. Our accomodations were nice including a bedroom, large bath and great room with a kitchen and living room with cable TV. Plenty of room for all of us on our unexpected Jamaican vacation. The grounds were nicely maintained with a pool and lots of tropical plants. the location of FP is in a great area of Ocho Rios with plenty of things to do ie resteraunts shopping and many tourist activities. We met up with our cruise ship in the port and started that partion of our vacation but we all missed Ocho Rios and the friends we made while staying at Fishermans Point.
