We arrived in Montego Bay on Friday, October 17 and stayed until Sunday, October 19 when we departed to go to Negril. Our room was ready when we arrived and a very polite bellman carried our bags to our room on the top floor (there was no elevator). This is an older hotel, but it was spotless, safe, and the people there were very accommodating. It was an inexpensive place to stay and for the money, it was just fine for us. We are opened minded travelers, and using stairs was no problem for us. We have a nice little balcony overlooking the "hip strip". It was fun just sitting out there and watching the people. Breakfast is served buffet style and is very reasonable. Not 4 star, but good with juice, coffee, fruit, etc. Nice atmosphere in the restaurant.
The hotel is directly across from Doctors Cave Beach. There is a small fee to use the beach, but it is well worth it, as the beach is very clean and the water was nice and warm. There is also snorkeling equipment for rent which we used all day. There is a reef out in the water where we saw lots of colorful tropical fish. The water was very calm. The hotel is within walking distance to Marguerietaville, the Jamaican Bob Sled Cafe, etc. The best restaurant in MoBay is definately the Pork Pit. Barbecued jerk pork or chicken and a couple of Red Stripes is extremely reasonable and delicious. Worth the walk of a couple of blocks from the hotel.
The only complaint we would have is the noice at night, but realize that the hotel has some age on it. You can hear traffic noice, doors slamming in the hotel, and on Friday night, some rather loud folks who had probably one Red Stripe too many. But it is Jamaica, and we could deal with it for two nights.
All in all, the hotel is just fine for the money. No problem.
