“Way better than the bad reviews.”

We just stayed there from feb 5/12 to feb 12/12 and i was very pleased , almost impressed.I was expecting an old run down resort but that was not the case. It was old but in very nice condition. The staff were very nice especially Tarsha and Dax . The food was really good, a very good variety and quality. I didn't try the omlet station but the pasta station was excellent. We ate at the Italien and Jamaican restaurents and it was like dining at a fine resaurent. I requested a cot for my room and it was delivered with no delay, just like with check in, the service was prompt and courtious . I would recommend this resort to familys and couples but not singles. The only reason i seem to think for the bad reviews is if you are used to 5 star and you are now at a 4 star of course you will be dissapointed. It is great value for the money and you can't beat the proximity to the airport.

Room Tip: building 1 ocean front was great

“Holiday Inn Sunspree - Awesome as always”

Have travelled to Jamaica many times and stayed in different areas of the Island. I have been going back to the Holiday Inn mainly because of the staff. Everyone from the Owner, Manager, Chefs, Waiters, Bartenders, Maids and Maintenance are always willing to assist you in any way they can. They are considerate kind people who go out of their way to make your stay comfortable. They are awesome people.
Jamaica rocks!!!

“Great vaction for the whole family”

My family and I stayed here over Christmas (Dec 25- Jan 1). We travelled with two little ones (6 & 4) and grandma. Check in went smoothly. We asked for adjoining rooms but that wasn't possible. We still ended up right next to each other though. We were in building one and what others said about it being loud are true. Although I am a light sleeper and had no problem sleeping. The location was good fo us as we were close to the pool, close to the buffet and steps away from the beach.
The rooms were nice, typical hotel rooms. No bar firdge, but I heard if you really needed one they could bring one to you.
The food was good. Everyday we had a choice of many items. The kids buffet was great for my little ones. Pizza was served daily with chicken fingers or pasta or battered fish bits or fries.... During the day you can get food from three seperate snack shacks. One served hamburgers, veggie burgers, fries, grilled cheese, fish and chips. One served hot dogs, ice cream and nachos and the last served amazing jerk chicken. Loved having the seperate snack shacks. That kept line ups down and food was always cooked freshly.
We ate at three resturants. You do have to get up an get in line to get a reservation. But that wasn't a big deal we took turns and it was worth it. The Italian resturant was fantastic. Great food at the Carribean resturant. The sea food resturant had slower service, but what a view.
We used the kids club a bit. We were hesitant about leaving our children in a club out of our sight, but once there and seeing it we felt comfortable and the kids loved going.
Finding empty lounge chairs was an issue. But realized quickly that if you just sat down for a few mintues empty chairs popped up and you could grab them and drag them to you. We never waited more then 5 mins. Pool was fun, beach was great.
Entertainment at night was a lot of fun. Each night a different set of performers came in, so we saw a variety of shows.
We went on two excursions...John Hall Adams tour and Dunn's river Falls tour. Both were fun.
New Year's Eve...fantastic night they put on. All the resturants were closed and they had everyone sitting out under the stars by the pool. They did a wonderful job at setting up a buffet that served everyone quickly and what a spread!! The food was amazing. It was a great night. We had brought with us glow bracelets for the kids and ended up handing most of them out. The resort gave out noise makers and hats and streamers. The entertainment that night was a ton of fun.
We have been to many resorts in a number of countries and had a great time here. We would return. Was it perfect? No. We didn't get our adjoining rooms, a couple of times the coffee bar was out of cups, the entertainment was a bit loud at night, we had to wait a few mintues for chairs, we had to get up early to get a reservation at a resturant, but what a fun time we spent together as a family. The staff was nice, the food was good, our rooms were clean, we were safe. We spent part of our winter on a beautiful beach without a care in the world. What more could you ask of a vacation?

“Great Experience, Great Value! No Worries, No Problem Mon”

Just returned from HI Sunspree MoBay. My wife and I spent 6 nights and enjoyed ourselves immensely. (New England"s Super Bowl loss the only downer). We upgraded to a waterview/front room and we are glad we did.We stayed in building 1b on the easterly end of the resort and we were very happy with our room and the quiet nights. another reviewer mentioned the pillows and I laughed . it is true that of the four pillows on our king bed, two were extra large and extra firm. Our room, which we were shown to upon arrival, was clean and presentable with no major problems. One dresser drawer front had seperated. We mentioned this at the front desk later in the evening, so as not to be charged for damage. They made note of this, thanking us with a big smile. Upon returning from breakfast our first morning we found the drawer front completely repaired. Our room was thouroughly cleaned each day and if we needed anything, all we had to do is ask one of the house keepers. No problem Mon.
The food was not Todd English or Wolfgang Puck to be sure, but tasty none the less. We enjoyed each of the ala carte restaraunts and the Super Bowl Buffet. The Jerk Hut was our lunch spot, and as another reviewer mentioned, Troydall was great. Troydall saw my Patriots t-shirt on SB Sunday and wished me luck. He spent the rest of the week being my shoulder to cry on. Thanks Troydall.
The second time visitor mentioned that the staff for the most part were rude. My wife and I found this to be a total opposite experience from ours. We found everyone that we dealt with to be extremely warm and friendly. From check in, to housekeeping,to the towel shed, to the snorkeling equipment desk,to the Hobie sailor, all the bartenders and waitstaff-- everyone was kind and happy. Each conversation and encounter ending with a Ya Mon. Even the grounds crew said good morning or good afternoon when I greeted them the same. The photographer, the nurse, and even the gate personnel we had a chance to interact with each of them and they were nothing but respectful and kind.
The beach was beautiful, although as other reviewers have mentioned the water was never more than waist deep. usually not even that. That being said, we utilized the snorkeling equipment each day. The water was plenty deep enough for this. Swimming around the various structures and on the back side of the island there was plenty of sea life to be observed. The pools looked inviting, however we never ventured into them as the ocean was wonderful.
Other reviewers talk about drink size. The drinks are served in small plastic cups so do yourself a favor and bring along a large insulated cup or mug. The bartenders will gladly fill these with your beverage of choice.(Ask for a double shot of your liqueor of choice).Don't expect Patron or Grey Goose, just except what they have and remember what you are paying to stay here as opposed to other resorts. Don't worry, Be happy!
We took a tour of The Great Rose Hall.($20. USD/per). The house and it's history are quite interesting. The grounds are very nice and the view from the grounds is killer. You can take the free shuttle to the Shops at Rose Hall and ask the driver to drop you at the Great House. Our driver,Charlie, took us to the front door and offered to pick us up on his next trip by. We chose to walk down to the Shops and meet him there.( All up hill going and down hill when leaving.) A small gratuity goes a long way.
We also did a trip to Dunns River Falls through Jamaica Tours. They offer a half day to the falls and back, or a full day" scenic tour to Ocho Rios and Dunns River Falls with lunch at one of Ocho Rios finest restaraunts" ($16. usd additional) Do take the trip to Dunns River Falls. DO NOT! DO NOT! DO NOT! Take the all day trip. The all day trip is a way to take you hostage at three seperate shopping venues and the lunch is deplorable. We mistakenly thought that we were going to be able to see some of Ocho Rios. DO NOT TAKE THIS TRIP.

Aside from our mistake with regard to our Dunns River tour we had a great trip and would not hesitate to return. Thank you cheapcaribbean.com and thank you Holiday Inn Sunspree Montego Bay.

“Montego Bay, Jamaica, bad start”

Traveled to Montego Bay with my husband, brother an his girlfriend beggining of feb. We had reservations with Holiday Inn Sunpree. I called the Holiday Inn the day before our departure to confirm our hotel reservations, they were confirmed by the front desk personal, Kandace. When we arrived to check in we waited a little while and an employee was helping us, she stated they were having maintenance problems and left the desk area, returning shortly with a manager,David. He stated they were overbooked and had no rooms, David explained to us we would have to go to another hotel, that he would call them and arrange transportation. Meanwhile Vanessa, greeted us with a beautiful smile and welcoming cocktails. Our transportation came and took us to Riu hotel, needless to say they were not notified we were comming, after some confusion and a few hours of waiting they accomodated us. The next day we were picked up and taken back to the Holiday Inn Sunspree, our rooms were not ready, they were not adjoining like requested and they were not upgraded as promised. The hotel did compensate us with an upgraded meal at the Seabreeze restaurant, I recommend an early meal there, ours was a late reservation and the lobster was tough.I recommend eating at the Italian restaurant, Sorrento, ask for Dax as your waiter,he was great. The buffets were very good, breakfast had made to order omelets, dinner, made to order pasta, varieties of fruits, vegetables, rolls, deserts and drinks. Dont forget to visit the Jerk Hut opens at 11:00. Troydell and a trainee Sandrene worked very hard and were very attentive. We frequently visited the Barefoot bar for lunch, they had the best fries, fish, grilled cheese and hot dogs, I didnt try the hamburgers..The watersports: I was shocked you had to return the snorkeling equipment in a hour, so we bought our own, but the other, such as the Hobie ride was wonderful, dont remember the young mans name but he was very informational, and the view from the bay spectacular. The other hotel staff were all very helpful and nice. Housekeeping did a fantastic job.!! Our rooms were always well cleaned and fresh flowers on the bed, they stopped every night to see if we needed new towels.I would recommend staying at the Holiday Inn Sunspree, but do not book through travelocity.Beaches were always neat, raked and cleaned every morning.

Room Tip: Be patient, relax dont be in a hurry, they are'nt. Make reservations for the restaurants early...
