Liz and I took a group of 12 down to Jamaica, we had an excellent time. We didn't tell anyone we were travel agents. The hotel was beautiful and the staff was very friendly and helpful. If you want the best bus driver in the world his name is Steve. Just ask the desk and they will contact him. The food was great and plentiful with lots of selection. The rooms were very clean, the views were out of this world. I will be returning to this hotel.

“Can't wait to go back next year!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

This was my first trip to Jamaica. My parents went last year to the same resort and loved it & wanted to go again this year so we did. From the moment we arrived I loved it. I went with my boyfriend ,parents and sister. Some may say the check in time is slow but they have to remember that their in another country and they do things differently. The weather was beautiful the full week we were there.

Food: The food was delicious but of course some people have different tastes but I found that they tried to have something for everyone. To the basics to the fancy dishes. When the buffet was closed the grill was open which there was never a time you would go hungry . Unless of course its at 4am... The grill served burgers , cheese burgers , veggie burgers, fish burgers , cheese nachos, cheese fries , cheese dogs , jerk chicken , pizza and fries. Everything was yummuy! They had a ice cream bar that ran in the afternoon which is all you can eat soft serve icecream which was yummy too! Great for the kids. Overall the food was good&as I mentioned before its a different country so of course their going to have different dishes that you may or may not like.

Drinks: The drinks were great. Everyday they had what you call "drink of the day" which was one of their special creations. Every drink i tried was bang on and really good.

Rooms: The rooms were ALWAYS CLEAN! Not one bug in the two rooms. The maid was the same maid all week so you get to know her a bit and what time she comes. The maid we had was super sweet and kept the rooms spotless. We stayed on the west side which over looked the ocean and close to the waterpark. We want to get the same rooms when we go back next time. Yes those rooms aren't as up to date as the tower rooms but the way I look at it is as long as I have a clean bed , air conditioning and a bathroom i'm good! Every room has a tv with cable but if your going down south why are you going to watch tv?... Overall rooms were spotless!

Staff: The staff were all very friendly. Everytime one of them would walk by they would aknowledge you with a smile. They don't harass you for tips because their not really allowed to accept them but once in a while we would tip our waiter or the bartender privately just to be curtious. Even one dollar to them is like 10 bucks to one of us. They were always helpful! One thing I noticed was some of the people staying at the resort would treat them as if they were crap. It broke my heart everytime I would see a person giving the staff a hard time. Their human beings just like us , give them a break! They don't make that much in a run of a week but yet their still very nice people.

Entertainment: Their was always something going on day and night. During the day they would have a entertainer speaking by the pool with music and games with prizes to win. Some people complained that the music was too loud... my personal opinion is if its too loud then move somewheres else! The night time entertainment was good too, I do only wish they would play more music at night then playing games so people could get up and dance but other then that everything was fun!

Adults: For the adults they had a swim up bar , gym , airconditioned bar with pool tables and a games room and different activities.

Kids: There was always something for the kids!!! They had a kids club room with video games , ping pong etc and a teens club and of course the waterpark! Even the adults acted like kids again because of the water slides !

Jamaica is the way to go! Espeically this resort. It's a family resort. If your looking for the ritz carlton then don't go to Sun Set Beach. Really all this resort needs is a touch up of paint (cosmetic stuff) and it would be a for sure 5 star, the resort is 30 years old so of course its not going to look brand spanken new. Which really if your going to be a picky parker then why are you going away? Most people go on vacations to get away from the crap at home and to enjoy the whole time with a care free life for a week. If your going to complain about their ketchup being too runny or a different color or the music or you didn't get enough pillows then don't go away!!!! It's not a vacation if you have to knit pick at every little thing at the resort.

As I said it's a amazing get away , absolutely paradise! Doesn't get any better It's great for kids and families. If your looking for just a couples resort then don't go here. The resort is huge so theres always something to do! Hope my review was helpful for everyone!!!

This was my husband and I first vacation away and WE LOVED IT :) The hotel staff was so friendly and polite. The room was great and the view of the ocean was excellant. The food was amazing their is something for everybody. The shows we watched almost everynight . The beaches were spotless except when a high wind came through and they clean it up right away. “Fun for the Whole Family”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

This was my second stay at Sunset Beach, this time with my entire family ranging in age from 3 to 60 and everyone had a blast.

Check-In
Painless. We arrived just after 6 pm and were greeted by hotel staff with complimentary fruit punch as we exited the shuttle. There was no line up at the front desk so check in went quickly and we were granted our hotel room keys, information package and escorted by the bell hop to our rooms - W124, W211 and W212.

Rooms
Although the package we booked stated we would be located in Sunrise Tower A, we were told we received an upgrade to the block located nearest the waterpark which was great since we were travelling with children ages 3,5 and 12. Room W124 was a ground floor room and included two double beds and a set of bunk beds. W211 and W212 were adjoining rooms on the second floor with a balcony overlooking the grounds and somewhat of a view of the beach/ocean. Rooms were clean, typical resort style rooms. Bathrooms were small and seemed smaller than the one I had last year in Tower B but was fine. Air conditioning in W124 seemed a bit cooler than the other two rooms and when controls were turned down, the room was very musty smelling. Air in W212 didn't seem to be as cool as the other two rooms but compared to no air, has fine. Cleaning staff were there every day and did a wonderful job.

Dining/Bar
Buffet and grill were fabulous. Lots of variety, super friendly staff, no complaints. We also tried the Italian restaurant which was really good and the Asian which again, food was good, staff were really great ;) Ice cream machine was a big hit with the kids (and adults too). I didn't personally go to the bar much but those who did didn't have any complaints. They were always served promptly and with a smile. My 5-year old nephew went to the bar more than I did during our stay, he was introduced to the Sponge Bob and loved them so he kept going up and ordering his own drinks...too cute :)

Entertainment
There was always lots going on during the day for people of all ages from beach volleyball to aquasize, dance lessons, ping pong, pool drinking games, and activities for the kids. Evening entertainment was alright...nothing too overly exciting (compared to other resorts I've stayed at) but at least something. Silver Birds steel drums were AMAZING! LOVED every minute of that night including the traditional song/dance after. Really great!!! The talent night was a great idea too and fun to watch.

Beach/Pools
No complaints here. The water park was lots of fun and this is where we spent most of our time as we had small children with us, although we did spend time at each pool and the beach at some point during our stay. We did save chairs for ourselves every morning, although I think we would have been ok not to as there always seemed to be chairs available, just not always with shade available. Main pool never seemed to be too busy, in the pool itself, but was always busy with sun bathers laying around the pool and of course, different games and such. The swim up bar pools were busy but not overly crowded with people, again not in the pool but busy around the pool with sun bathers. Beach was always busy and lots of fun. There were always lots of chairs available so that was never an issue.

Staff
Staff were all very friendly and went above and beyond to offer great service. Front desk staff were friendly during check in and check out. Staff at the Guest Information Desk were phenomenal...very helpful in booking reservations for the al a cartes and with booking excursions. They also assisted in making arrangements to have a birthday cake available during one of our al a carte nights. Staff at the restaurants were great too. We had one guy that really made a lasting impression (Omar). We met him the first or second day and he was fabulous. It just so happened that we ended up sitting in his section most times (by coincidence). He was always so happy and friendly, chatting with everyone, smiling from ear to ear, joking around with the kids. He would say hi or give a wave to us if we were walking through the resort, just really made us feel welcome. All in all we had no issues with any staff as everyone was great.

Check-Out
Painless. No issues. Staff even called our hotel rooms prior to check out to let us know who to call if we wanted the bell hop to come and get our bags. As check out was at 11 and our shuttle wasn't until 2:30, we were able to leave our bags in the lobby, keep out bracelets until we boarded our shuttle so were still able to use the hotel facilities, eat, drink, swim, etc. We were even able to keep our towel keys until we left so that was a bonus.

Sunset Beach is a great family friendly resort at a great price. I would recommend this resort for anyone looking for a reasonably priced resort. I have been a guest both with a family and with single friends...and had an exceptional time both times :)
