My mother and I came here on a two night business trip. We stayed here in mid December. I took awhile to write this review because I did not want to let everyone know how special and unique this place is. I wanted to keep this hotel all to myself! When we arrived it was getting dark and the view of the harbor was breathtaking. We were greeted and handed a form to fill out and our keys. Our room was 205. I can't understand the bad reviews this lovely hotel has recieved? Yes, the rooms are a little worn and the hotel could use a fresh coat of paint but we were quite pleased with our spacious clean room. They do not claim to be the Four Seasons and what you get in exchange for the luxuries of a higer end hotel is amazing. This hotel is so cool. It is built right where the city sunk into the ocean from the earthquake. There are beautiful old buildings right on the property. The bar is very nice and it looks out to the yachts that are docked there and that awesome view of Kingston. We had dinner at the resturant and sat right on the water. The only disappointment about the hotel was that service at dinner needed some fine tuning. My mother had a steak and they did not have steak knives, we also never received bread. The food was tasty though and the atmosphere was nice. We seemed to almost be the only guests at the hotel which was neat. We had the pool all to ourselves. The pool area was nice as well with vegetation all around. Shanua was so nice and came up to us to say welcome and that she was the girl we spoke with when we made our reservations. My mom and I keep saying how we can not wait to go back in Feb. I absolutely love this place.
This hotel is in the lovely town of Port Royal which is a hidden gem. We spent our free time walking up and down the streets and seeing the historical things such as the fort with the neat giddy house, a must see. The charm of the town is seen everywhere. Walking around in the town, which is a quick walk from the hotel, the little kids would all come and say hi. We would always give them some money and they really liked it and always said thank you. I wish I had little toys for them but we are bringing some when we return. Glorias is a good resturant and is reasonably priced. Every night we would walk to this little bar about a block away from the hotel, it was fun and we NEVER felt unsafe or uncomfortable. The people were friendly and seemed to enjoy that we were interested in their town. Overall this quick two night trip was one of the best I have been on, I travel quite often. Go with an open mind and you will enjoy yourself. Don't be scared to just pick a street and walk down it with images of how this town was when it was the richest most wicked city on earth!
