My mother and I came here on a two night business trip. We stayed here in mid December. I took awhile to write this review because I did not want to let everyone know how special and unique this place is. I wanted to keep this hotel all to myself! When we arrived it was getting dark and the view of the harbor was breathtaking. We were greeted and handed a form to fill out and our keys. Our room was 205. I can't understand the bad reviews this lovely hotel has recieved? Yes, the rooms are a little worn and the hotel could use a fresh coat of paint but we were quite pleased with our spacious clean room. They do not claim to be the Four Seasons and what you get in exchange for the luxuries of a higer end hotel is amazing. This hotel is so cool. It is built right where the city sunk into the ocean from the earthquake. There are beautiful old buildings right on the property. The bar is very nice and it looks out to the yachts that are docked there and that awesome view of Kingston. We had dinner at the resturant and sat right on the water. The only disappointment about the hotel was that service at dinner needed some fine tuning. My mother had a steak and they did not have steak knives, we also never received bread. The food was tasty though and the atmosphere was nice. We seemed to almost be the only guests at the hotel which was neat. We had the pool all to ourselves. The pool area was nice as well with vegetation all around. Shanua was so nice and came up to us to say welcome and that she was the girl we spoke with when we made our reservations. My mom and I keep saying how we can not wait to go back in Feb. I absolutely love this place.
This hotel is in the lovely town of Port Royal which is a hidden gem. We spent our free time walking up and down the streets and seeing the historical things such as the fort with the neat giddy house, a must see. The charm of the town is seen everywhere. Walking around in the town, which is a quick walk from the hotel, the little kids would all come and say hi. We would always give them some money and they really liked it and always said thank you. I wish I had little toys for them but we are bringing some when we return. Glorias is a good resturant and is reasonably priced. Every night we would walk to this little bar about a block away from the hotel, it was fun and we NEVER felt unsafe or uncomfortable. The people were friendly and seemed to enjoy that we were interested in their town. Overall this quick two night trip was one of the best I have been on, I travel quite often. Go with an open mind and you will enjoy yourself. Don't be scared to just pick a street and walk down it with images of how this town was when it was the richest most wicked city on earth!

Room Tip: Room 205 was nice with two double beds. We could leave our patio doors open and lay at the pool.

We arrived at this hotel,on out tour of the island. The receptionist could not manage a smile or even greet us. Then she had no registration forms. After 15 mins a few appeared, only a few,so our party(15 of us ) had to share!!
Got to our room.A very small double bed not suitable for the 2 of us. Went to check the shower, and it did not work. Water trickled from the taps in the sink. My husband went to complain, and came back 15 mins later with another key. Had a shower, washed my hair, and the hairdryer did not work!!
Went down the stairs, which were in a bad state of repair, and paint peeling everywhere,to dinner. WE were given a hand written menu, put in our order, then told we could either have a dessert or starter ,not both??! The food arrived, and half of it was wrong.
The table we were given was so near the water's edge, good job we were all sober!!
Breakfast next morning was in order,as i think our tour guide had a strong word.
This hotel has seen better days, and needs renovating. The rooms are dark and dingy. Also needs new management to train the staff!!

“Too many 'great' reviews to be true”

I'm can't actually think of anything that I liked about this 'Hotel'. Expensive, yet unbelievably rubbish.
Dilapidated, slow, no water (either in the taps or at the bar), musty, dirty, and no functioning elevator.
One place I will avoid at all cost !

“Down at heel”

Our room was noisy (having a front and back door on to an echoing corridor. It was also rather dim and dingy - it could do with a lick of paint and was furnished in a rather drab and dreary style. However, it was clean and there is room service etc. The restaurant was incredibly slow too. Its main attraction is the proximity to the airport and free transfer service - unless, like us, you needed to leave before 0700am - we had to pay for a cab and, as the (included) breakfast doesn't start until 0730am we missed out on this too. Our wheelchair-using friend had to ask to be moved as he could no access his bathroom and, even then had to ask for a bathroom door to be removed in order to access it. When will hotels around the world realise that 'accessible' rooms should have outward opening bathroom doors!

“Great location, poor management and lack of service, hotel needs a "make-over"”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 April 2011

We planned a weekend for our 3rd anniversary as we had been there years before and loved the place and location;this time we stayed in the older part on the left wing; hotel-room in very poor condition (fridge not working, no hair-dryer, dirty walls, no plugs for hair-dryer in bathroom or any near mirror in bedroom; shower-head broken, little watr dripping down and water boiling hot). We moved to another room next day but had not been informed that it was disco-night. Eventhough barely no guests at the beginning the bass and music was turned up to extreme -terribly loud disco-techno-music in the open yard right in front of hotel-rooms-windows and furniture were literally trembling, no sleep or rest possible till about 1 a.m.-our weekend was spoiled, disappointed exhausted we took off Monday morning; hotel needs better management and definitely to be refurbished any time soon. Fitness-center looks like from 2 centuries ago and pool-area and garden not very well taken care of. Internet in lobby provided but slow and no A/C working in that computer-room. Hotel-staff and bar-tender very friendly though.
