i stayed at the roi chistophe just 2 days ago and i must tell you it was not a good experience at all, the pool were durty, the rooms were so small you can barely turn around, they mention that petit dejeune is included, oh please that was a lie,, the aircondition never works i mean to pay so much for a room in haiti come on, the towells looks as if the never change them in year's, it was just a terrible experience,

the garden is propebly the only thing that look good at this hotel, i will never go back that's for sure,

“The good and bad at the Crsitophe”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 March 2007

I stayed at the Rio Christophe for two weeks in October. It is a beautiful old building in nice walled gardens. It is an old mansion built by Cristophe to live in while the Citadel was being constructed, then the Du Ponts owned it. So it was protected as the rest of the city sank into squalor. (all this is unchecked heresay)

I stayed in the best room (the Kings) for around $55 a night. It is clean but has a crappy mattess and is run down. There was some large creature probably a rat who ran around inside the cieling each night very loudly, the veiw was great and the drains barely worked. All air conditioning runs from noon to 5 only. This is pretty basic by first world standards but fine for third world.

This is the headquarters for all the aid agency types and UN Minusta officers. It is the only place with free wi fi and they hang on the veranda. Very good conversation.

The food is fair, the water filtered, the service bad. There is a nice cafe about three blocks down the street with good goat stew but few blans wander around alone. Alway carry a small flashlight because there is very little electricity.

The woman who owns the hotel was opening a casino the week I left and I expect the noise may become an issue. I understand he general quality of the place is falling, but it is still fine.

“Good Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 June 2005

This was my first trip to Haiti, in June 2005. I have not stayed at any other hotel in Haiti. I stayed at this hotel on 2 nights in different rooms, and was able to visit a suite also.

This is a good hotel. There are rooms available with air conditioning or just a ceiling fan. The suites are big. TVs are in the rooms. Each room has a separate bathroom with shower, sink and toilet. The bedsheets, pillowcases, and towels were clean. Beds and pillows were clean. Toilet paper and good soap were provided. Floors were very clean. Bathrooms were clean. Furniture and fixtures were old but clean.

Good service. I got the impression that if we had any complaint about the room, they would fix it immediately.

There is a welcoming atmosphere.

We drank the water they gave us to drink and did not get sick. (We did not drink water from the faucets, however). The restaurant has safe food and it tastes very good. The food was served at the proper temperature. At one dinner, there were 7 of us, and we ordered different entrees-- the entrees were all served at the same time. Their french fries are very good.

There are no crystal chandeliers or gold-plated faucets, but it is a good basic hotel. It's clean. I think it's as close to American standards as you can get in Cap.

The hotel is located in a nice part of town, close to a police station (so it's safe). Short taxi ride to the airport.

Drawbacks: at one meal we sat on a terrace and there were lots of flies.
Also, it took a long time to get our meals.

In one of the rooms there was a piece of furniture (a wardrobe) that seemed to smell funny.

“Beautiful Hotel!!”

It was so beautiful until I got to the room. This was just average. The TV didn't work and the cost for the room was $69. My interpreter stayed with me so when I checked out they told me the cost would be $83. So the $50 you see here is not right.

“Wouahhh, the pituresque”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2004

This hotel transcends the charm and beauty of what the city of Cap-Haitian has to offer. It depicts the exuberant tropical nature of this northern coastal paradise.

As a native CAPOIS, I grew up admiring its pituresque portrait, journeyed for two weeks in one of its very formidable square rooms. Now despite having been acustomed to hollywood style hotels in California, I am still envisioning and caressing the idea of taking my family back for a longer sejour. Wouahhh, what a unique adoration...
