This was my first trip to Haiti, in June 2005. I have not stayed at any other hotel in Haiti. I stayed at this hotel on 2 nights in different rooms, and was able to visit a suite also.
This is a good hotel. There are rooms available with air conditioning or just a ceiling fan. The suites are big. TVs are in the rooms. Each room has a separate bathroom with shower, sink and toilet. The bedsheets, pillowcases, and towels were clean. Beds and pillows were clean. Toilet paper and good soap were provided. Floors were very clean. Bathrooms were clean. Furniture and fixtures were old but clean.
Good service. I got the impression that if we had any complaint about the room, they would fix it immediately.
There is a welcoming atmosphere.
We drank the water they gave us to drink and did not get sick. (We did not drink water from the faucets, however). The restaurant has safe food and it tastes very good. The food was served at the proper temperature. At one dinner, there were 7 of us, and we ordered different entrees-- the entrees were all served at the same time. Their french fries are very good.
There are no crystal chandeliers or gold-plated faucets, but it is a good basic hotel. It's clean. I think it's as close to American standards as you can get in Cap.
The hotel is located in a nice part of town, close to a police station (so it's safe). Short taxi ride to the airport.
Drawbacks: at one meal we sat on a terrace and there were lots of flies.
Also, it took a long time to get our meals.
In one of the rooms there was a piece of furniture (a wardrobe) that seemed to smell funny.
