We stayed at Roi Christophe one night before moving on to the fabulous Cormier Plage (we arrived in Cap too late to go all the way to Cormier), and well, let's say that I'm glad we stayed here *before* staying at Cormier b/c it would have been quite a step down. The rooms are pretty much atrocious, although they are a decent size and there was hot water for the shower. Thankfully, the rest of the hotel and its grounds are really something to be seen. There are lovely verandah-type eating areas in the front and on the side of the building, an interior courtyard, and a cozy bar, all giving views of the beautiful plant life surrounding the gracefully ageing building. The foliage is so dense that one can hardly hear the noise of the streets outside of the enclave, a true blessing. The other standout for me was the wooden staircase at the back of the building. It is original to the building and you feel almost transported in time as you use it. Service was inconsistent (one man was excellent and attempted to correct a couple of the other staff members when they were less-than-excellent), but not terrible. Food was tasty, but limited; many of the items on the menu were not actually available. I did not use the pool, but I saw people cleaning it while we were there and it looked quite nice, very well situated on the grounds. I will probably try some of the other hotels in Cap Haitien if we ever stay in town again, but I would not be sad if I had to stay here again, as long as I didn't have to stay in my room too long.
