I have actually stayed at Walls Guest House twice - once during my first trip to Haiti which was back in 1995 and again for a week in June, 2004. If you are single and traveling to Haiti alone, are on a budget, and are worried about security, Walls is a good choice for you. I stayed there alone in 2004 and would do it again. However, Walls is primarily used by mission groups as a stopping off point before leaving Port au Prince and traveling to other parts of Haiti or as a base for groups staying in PAP. It is very basic, although clean. There is a generator so there is always electricity. Accomodations are shared rooms, although depending on the number of people coming to Haiti at the time, you may have a room to yourself as I did. There are usually several twin beds in each room. Most rooms have fans only. The cost for one of these rooms is $25 per night which also includes breakfast and dinner. Rooms with AC are available for a cost of $35. The food is simple but very good. For breakfast, there are various fruits laid out buffet style - usually pineapple, banannas, mangos, papaya, oranges, etc. and eggs or french toast is available. I only had the dinner once but it was delicious - rice and beans and bread. There is always cold Culligan water available with glasses so you can get water whenever you want. There is a small swimming pool. There is a nice balcony overlooking the street which has rocking chairs and wonderful breezes. The bathrooms are not in the rooms and are shared. There is a small craft shop and the money goes to the guest house. Security is always a concern in PAP and I felt totally safe there. I would highly recommend this place!!! I have fond memories of staying there.
