I love this hotel and have never had such a positive experience as I did at the Park. The space is chill, the staff are friendly, and the owners really make you feel as if you're family. The location is great, and as this was my first trip to Port-au-Prince, I felt safe and genuinely looked out for by Philip, the hotel manager. Located across from Champ de Mars, one of the larger camps for displaced Haitians after the quake, the long driveway to the entrance feels secure yet still allows you to blend into the general cityscape. At night they lock the gates I think around 10 or 11:00 p.m., but you will have to ask them about their buzzer system in order to be let in. The Park is well-located with two markets a block and a half from it, an ATM also a block away at the Plaza, Digicel (also a block away) is close by if you need to buy a disposable cellphone, and there are street vendors and small food places close by. It's definitely a no frills space and is so chill. The layout is such that you can find so many spaces to work, use the Internet and hang out with friends. Nice touch that the manager seems particularly on the look out for women travellers, giving advice on how to navigate throughout the city. Every other Sunday they also invite hotel residents for a boat ride, which is a very beautiful and unexpected touch. It's a family-run business and you definitely feel like your staying with a family member in a long and sprawling guest house. And that's a great feeling. They take credit cards, but I paid cash for my stay. They also have Internet included in the price, but it is a bit slow and sometimes drops out. Some of the folks I was with went to the Plaza Hotel down the street to use their wireless. Definitely, you don't want to bother uploading large files. The food is basic. I went to the markets to get some produce and drinks most times. Their breakfast is basic, their coffee is amazing, and they do have a nice sandwich. But residents may want to venture to the street stands to get some chicken or spaghetti or plantains. I never did have their lunch, but you will have to let them know ahead of time so they know how much to cook for you. The space is clean and I quickly felt comfortable leaving my travel money in my affects in the rooms. I can't recommend this place more. Better than the Olofsson and the Plaza. The price and the warm disposition of the owners and staff are the best. Book no other place than the Park Hotel. No doubt about it.

“Quiet in Center of Storm”

This hotel, while not having many frills, was an Oasis during the days before and after Hurricane Dean was supposed to hit. We never lost electricity, the breakfast was basic but tasty, and the rooms clean. The Park is down a gate and driveway, which affords privacy to those who want to avoid many of the tourist hustlers in downtown Port au Prince. The hotel did have some quirks, including not taking credit cards at night, just in the morning, as well as not telling me to call them from the front gate to be let in. Also, they have some longtime residents including Cuban Engineers and the Panamanian Consul. Overall, a unique hotel, one that is recommended.
