“Lost in time with very, very bad service”

It is possible for one to see what could be, and what it must have been, to be at the ibolele in the 50s, 60s, and maybe event the 70s. Unfortunately, the place has not seen any updates since. The hotel is run down, service is horrible, and everything is over price. The ibolele takes advantage of its remote location and gouge its patrons for every possible dollar and steal a few from you while you are not looking (I'll talk about that in a second).

For the pros, the hotel have one of the best views in Petion-ville. The hotel offers a dominating view of Port-au-prince from the patio. Everything positive stops there. The rooms are awful. They are stuffy with an unpleasant odor. The service is BAD.

During my stay at the Ibolele, I had several clothing item magically disappear from my room along with my i-phone. The front desk was clueless about the lost and became offended when it was brought to their attention. If this is not bad enough, the wait staff was constantly engaged in verbal altercation over how gratuities were split/shared. No management oversight to speak of.

Overall, my recommendation is "stay away". If all you want is a bed (not necessarily free from bedbugs), then ibolele is the place for you.

Room Tip: Stay away from the older part of the hotel. The rooms facing the pool are a little better.

“compared to other hotels in PaP: too shabby, too expensive”

Forget about reviews from before the earthquake - Ibo Lele may have been a grand hotel in former times and maybe one of the first secure places right after the earthquake but they let you pay for the old reputation and not for what they have to offer right now. I stayed in most of the hotels in Port au Prince and this one is definitely a place I will not return to: 110 USD for a dirty room (old hairs and soap in the bathroom, shabby furniture, bad smell etc) and bad service is totally inappropriate! The only positive thing is the pool with the great view over the city - which is helpful because you do not wanna spend one minute more than necessary inside of the room...

“Not too shabby, could use work”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2011

I'm really not sure how to rate this hotel. After two weeks in rural Haiti it was great! But honestly it would be pretty mundane amenity wise compared to America. The hotel looked pretty nice. The architecture was beautiful and there was some great art work and it felt like the type of place that a 1950s James Bond film would be at. Definitely the best part of the hotel was its INCREDIBLE view over Port-au-Prince. The food at the restaurant was tasty but maybe a bit overpriced and the staff were definitely not trained very well as checking-in and getting food took a while and I would expect multilingual workers at such a nice place but they weren't. The rooms were comfortable enough but maybe I was just thankful to have running water, tv, and internet for the first time in 2 weeks. Decent place really and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. With a bit of investment and some construction (which was going on in May 2011) this could really be a nice place.

Room Tip: See if you can get one with a view over the hillside and a balcony.

“Adequate shelter, but not much more. Good sports bar, though.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2011

Stayed here for two weeks in November. Rooms cleaned randomly, internet worked only occasionally. Tried the hotel restaurant only once then didn't return; fortunately had transportation to reach other options. The sports bar was good, however, and NFL games on weekends were a big plus.

Room Tip: Keep asking if there isn't something better...but be prepared to pay.

“Ibo Lele so, so..............”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 July 2011

The only thing nice I found at Ibo Lele was the view of Port au Prince from the terrace. The room I've got was not really clean and the furniture in poor condition. It was very noisy especially around 2 or 3 in the morning when revelers leave the place during the week end. The food is quite expensive for what they serve. I tried different meals during my one week stay and there is only one acceptable, the poulet creole. I wouldn't be too excited to go there again........
