My wife and I stayed at the El Rancho several times from 2001 to 2003. We found the hotel to be a very nice place to stay. The rooms were clean and very well furnished. The food was great, the staff very nice and professional. We only had one problem, on our third stay, a room a/c went out and they gave us a new room. There is a small casino there, a very large pool with a bridge over it, and a swim up bar.
The only problem is one that is found in all the hotels in Haiti. That is that after the bar closes at about 2:00/am the are no drinks, soft or other wise, until the restaurant re-opens at about 7:00/am. So, buy a small styrofoam cooler, stock up and get some ice from the bar before they close. that is if you're like me and wake up thirsty at night. I suggested to the staff that they get a soda machine. They said they would look into it. But the only machine I've seen in the whole country was at the airport.
