“My first time in Haiti”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 March 2009

This was my first trip to haiti with my boyfriend who is Haitian. The positive of the hotel was the breakfast and the service for food. The room wass undesireable the toliet always clogged and there was a shortage of towels. We were bothered every morning by a staff member for either a ironing boead air conditioning etc. The light in the bathroom never worked and were never replaced. We felt that the staff at the front desk need a course in appropriate management. We felt very safe at all times. There also was a gym fee of $5 per person per day. They also tried to charge more for the room as it was done on the internet This did not fly. Poor impression for my first trip to Haiti.

“Great Hotel, for Haiti”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2009

My wife and I stayed at the El Rancho several times from 2001 to 2003. We found the hotel to be a very nice place to stay. The rooms were clean and very well furnished. The food was great, the staff very nice and professional. We only had one problem, on our third stay, a room a/c went out and they gave us a new room. There is a small casino there, a very large pool with a bridge over it, and a swim up bar.

The only problem is one that is found in all the hotels in Haiti. That is that after the bar closes at about 2:00/am the are no drinks, soft or other wise, until the restaurant re-opens at about 7:00/am. So, buy a small styrofoam cooler, stock up and get some ice from the bar before they close. that is if you're like me and wake up thirsty at night. I suggested to the staff that they get a soda machine. They said they would look into it. But the only machine I've seen in the whole country was at the airport.

  • Liked — the food, the pool, the bar.
  • Disliked — general area.

“Service Has Went Down”

In the past I have stayed at this hotle on every visit to Haiti, this time the service was not good at all. The a/c was not working proper and there were a large rat in my room crawling on up the curtains. They called for housekeeping and still couldn't get the rat out of my room. They said he went out the bathroom window, but the window had screens on it. The towel was not clean, the service has just went down. They tired to place me in another room way in the back behind the restrauant with two small twin beds that look like a dump. i was paying $150 a night for the rooms. I will never stay there again.

“El rancho park of the pig owners”

The people who owns and runs this hotel should not be allowed to work in service. They have no idea how to deal with people, they treat their employees badly and treat their clients like they were doing us a favor to allow us to stay at their overpriced hotel. The hotel itself have some very nice rooms but some rooms with no water or electricity and beds that sits 2 feet from the floor, simply should not be rented.
The food is horrible, but you can't account gor taste. I wish they served haitian food, because I don't go to Haiti to eat american food, nor would I go to France to eat Jamaican food. Trying the food of the place you are visiting is half the fun of going there.
The best thing is I felt safe when on the hotel grounds, I just wished there was more to do, and the food was digestable
