“Very comfortable in midst of noisy city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

Stepping off the noisy and dirty streets in the Champs Mars area of Port-au-Prince, it’s a quiet relief to enter Le Plaza (which years ago was a Holiday Inn). Reception area and hallways are nothing to impress, but when you open the door and enter your room you know you’ve come to a quality place. The room was small but very comfortable and clean, nice bathroom, very comfortable beds, good air conditioning, so I was happy.

The courtyard is a very pleasant place, whether sitting under the large gazebo roof to eat, in a lounge around the pool (which is old, some paint-chipped, but clean and pleasant swimming), or in a grouping of outdoor seating under coconut palms.

The food is good but not great, and for Haiti it’s really high priced, but that has a lot to do with what’s happened to prices all over Haiti since the January 2010 earthquake.

“convenient and comfortable”

I am a "regular" at this hotel. The staffs are wonderful, my room was very cleaned and comfortable. I had to extend my stay and had no problem changing my reservation. Security was no issue for me. The food is ok but a little pricey. Will stay again, and again.

Room Tip: rooms toward the right side of the pool from the lobby going to the back have been renovated, quiet.

“More of the same kind of review...a real mixed bag”

The outside of Le Plaza looks great; unfortunately, staying there came with one frustration after another. Lost "guaranteed" reservation and refusal to give me the guaranteed rate (fortunately I'd saved the online confirmation); push for you to pay cash for meals, but then can't make change for a $20; really poor (and expensive for what you get) restaurant food (which is a problem since there are no other restaurants in the area). Sometimes the restaurant offered a menu; other days you were stuck with only their expensive ($20) and poor quality buffett...if you stay here, take protein bars with you and forget the restaurant. Rooms are clean but rundown and shabby. Some staff very helpful; others downright rude. Good aspects are a nice pool area, room balcony, and wifi that usually worked. I would not stay again.

“Basic and Secure in the heart of PaP.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2011

Le Plaza Hotel is a solid two star, no frills hotel best suited for low budget business travel to Port au Prince. The staff were very pleasant but despite their good intentions, snafus were the order of the day. Be prepared to wait 15 minutes or more for the express breakfast. The shower was lukewarm with an ancient shower head that required body contortions to get rinsed by the few streams of water it produced. The door required multiple attempts to shut as the lock was improperly installed and difficult to catch. The furnishings were functional but very outdated and in need of rehab. Housekeeping was shoddy. On the plus side, armed guards and multiple gates provide excellent security, which is a major benefit since the hotel is across the street from one of the larger tent cities The bed was okay, sheets and pillows were clean and odor free. The hotel was surprisingly quiet, given its location and the Griot was the best I've ever had. They have a refreshing selection of fresh juices, perfect for the hot, humid weather. Given the devastation that surrounds this hotel, I'm grateful for the clean bed, warm shower and much more forgiving of their flaws.

Room Tip: Ask for a renovated room.

New stuff put on old dirty walls, dirty room with a big tv, everything seems sloppy and untidy. Broken lights, staff of strange behaviour. Only warm, not hot water, dirty bath and toilet.

Dear Jose,

We would like to apologise that your stay at Le Plaza was not to your expectations.
We have undertaken a renovation program and hope that by next year, most of our rooms will have been refreshed. Should you give us the opportunity to serve you again, we would love to show you one of our refurbed rooms.
I also understand from you message that our housekeeping service was disapointing. Again, we do apologise.
We are working to continually improve our service and would greatly appreciate if you would let us know your dates and room number you stayed in, so that we may investigate what went wrong.
We hope that you will consider giving us a second chance and do not hesitate to contact us for any questions.
Best Regards,

Agnes Pierre-louis
