I stayed here for 3 weeks so I probably had a different experience than most. I found, for the most part, the hotel to be clean, well run, and had friendly staff. This is likely the best place to stay in PAP and there are always events going on so you never know who you will see (this could be good or bad because events increase traffic and security). There are a few things I wasn't pleased with or just noticed as strange:
- The restaurant had only about 5 things on the dinner menu which gets old after a while. Twice I ordered room service because I had to finish work in my room and the food was under cooked. It is not fun to call room service and complain (especially since not knowing French was a big disadvantage) so I just didn't eat dinner those days.
- The maids are not 100% well trained. Some days I had 1 hand towel, others 2, and others none. Additionally, they sometimes left cleaning supplies in my room. Not the biggest deal, but something I noticed.
- Not knowing French is a problem. The staff for the most part understands English, but not all that well.
- On the weekends many people from the outside come to the pool, leaving a few or no pool chairs for guests.
Now for the pluses:
- While I was there they had a couple of craft fairs which allowed me to browse Haitian crafts at the hotel.
- The shop at the hotel is great (although expensive).
- The hotel is clean.
I would go back because it is the best place in PAP, but next time, I will go grocery shopping at the Giant and bring my own food for meals.
