“Nice for PAP, but...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

I stayed here for 3 weeks so I probably had a different experience than most. I found, for the most part, the hotel to be clean, well run, and had friendly staff. This is likely the best place to stay in PAP and there are always events going on so you never know who you will see (this could be good or bad because events increase traffic and security). There are a few things I wasn't pleased with or just noticed as strange:
- The restaurant had only about 5 things on the dinner menu which gets old after a while. Twice I ordered room service because I had to finish work in my room and the food was under cooked. It is not fun to call room service and complain (especially since not knowing French was a big disadvantage) so I just didn't eat dinner those days.
- The maids are not 100% well trained. Some days I had 1 hand towel, others 2, and others none. Additionally, they sometimes left cleaning supplies in my room. Not the biggest deal, but something I noticed.
- Not knowing French is a problem. The staff for the most part understands English, but not all that well.
- On the weekends many people from the outside come to the pool, leaving a few or no pool chairs for guests.

Now for the pluses:
- While I was there they had a couple of craft fairs which allowed me to browse Haitian crafts at the hotel.
- The shop at the hotel is great (although expensive).
- The hotel is clean.

I would go back because it is the best place in PAP, but next time, I will go grocery shopping at the Giant and bring my own food for meals.

I went to Karibe in April for 2 days for my birthday, the place is beautiful. A bit pricey but nice hotels are limited in PAP. I would go again.

This Hotel was anything but 5 star!! First off/ When we arrived we had to stand in line for 5 minutes before we were able to check in (This is unacceptable)!! Secondly/When i summoned the maid she did not respond immediately forcing myself to summon her again(This is a no no)!! Thirdly/I asked for the Temp. in my room to be set to my normal 70 degrees!! IT WAS 72 degrees(Again unacceptable)! Needless to say our stay was a Nightmare!! Never again!!

“A true oasis”

I spent 2 nights at the Karibe earlier this year. The rooms are clean and spacious and the amenities were well maintained (pool, gym, spa). While we were not in Haiti for a vacation, the Karibe was a welcome respite from the hustle and bussle elsewhere in Port-au-Prince and Petion-Ville. Not knowing what to expect, the Karibe was a pleasant and welcome surprise.

“Karibe est tres bonne!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

Karibe hotel was an unexpected gem in Port au Prince. Nestled in the more upscale community of Petionville, the hotel has a lot going for it. Rooms were well furnished complete with a flat screen tv, desk with a swivel chair and a safe that can actually accomodate a laptop. Internet service (included) was problem free. The bed was super comfy, on par with the heavenly bed. The food in the restaurant was consistently good but a little pricey and the meeting facilities were more than adequate. It has a great pool, lots of loungers and an awesome poolside bar. The service however was hit or miss. Sometimes, we waited too long to be acknowledged at the restaurant and when we ordered the food took over 30 minutes to come out. Other minor glitches, like having to seat ourselves or waiting too long for the check happened all too often. The guest hallways are tiled, and I woke every morning to the sound of housekeeping carts clanging along on the tile. I loved the gift shop! Lots of great, authentic Haitian souvenirs and art at a reasonable price. Overall, the hotel was the best I've encountered so far in Haiti. Now if they could just work on the service and carpet the hallways it would be a complete home run!

Room Tip: Ask for a king if you're traveling solo. They are in short supply.
