“basically everything ok for us. Seems to have changed quite a lot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2011

We've rented a 4 bed villa for two weeks and everything was ok in our apartment.of course there are still differences compared to a european 4 star hotel. But all our beds and even the sofa was equipped with moskito nets. The bathrooms and toilet were acceptably clean the furniture seemed new. But still this location is more like renting a holiday apartment than a hotel. But when we arrived everything was ok we had fresh flowers on the tables. And the rooms a and stuff were as clean as we experienced it in another 4 star hotel on this island that is deemed one of the best around. Compared to what else we have seen here in other but also much cheaper locations we were actually very pleased.

“The Prestige Villa - Real value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2011

To celebrate my mother in law we (group of thirteen) stayed in the prestige villa. We had a fantastic stay all over. The villa is situated 300 meters from Grande Anse, a fantastic beach. Although in the middle of an area of private villas and close to a a main road we were in total tranquility. The houses were spacious and clean. However kitchen equipment and some beds were not ideal. Would need to be expanded and changed. Fantasic service from the hotel and its owner. The garden is nice, the pool well situated and taken care of on a daily basis. I
I do not agree with all the critics aout there. We have stayed at numerous top class resorts around the world. The prestige villa is not of the same class, but on the other hand this is more than enough expressed in the price.

“Overrated”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2008

From the reviews I read, it seems there was some improvment!
The view is fantastic, we had one of the small studios over the reception. Unfortunately, it was not spotless and some of the furniture is in poor condition. The worst was the fridge with a rotten door but the sitting seats didn't have their cushions and the living is poorly furnished. But, the bed was good and we had a mosquito net. We were told by the agency (Nouvelles Frontières) that the cleaning would be done every 2 days when in fact, they only changed the sheets.

Contrary to what one would think looking at their Website, the restaurant is not part of the complex and is so-so.

It seems they don't mind the critics and they ignored ours. Therefore we were supposed to be there for 2 weeks but left after a week.

“Very bad hotel!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2007

In September 2007 we had a 12 day stay in Domaine de la Pointe Batterie (Guadeloupe/Deshaies). Attracted by the nice photos on the hotels website, we decided to make a fix reservation for a 12 day stay. This was a big mistake. The hotel claims payment in advance. The “resort” is the worst we ever visited and I want to warn everyone who thinks about going there.
We booked a 4-persons villa, because we wanted our own pool and the nice view. It was a good idea not to take the cheap 2-person rooms, as theses are directly situated at the main pool, where there is a lot of traffic and noise.
When we arrived the guys at the reception told us, that it was low season and the restaurant is closed in Sept/Oct. Unfortunately all other restaurants in Deshaies were closed, too! Good luck we had a car (Sixt car rental). So we went to the next small supermarket for buying food.

Unfortunately there are thousands of mosquitos in the area of Deshaies, and the hotel offers no insect tents or nettings for protection. We had to drive to Pointe a Pitre and buy our own mosquito-tent. Anyway we got hundreds of bites by the mosquitos as they also attacked during the day. None of these toxic pesticide or repellents helped at all, horrible!

+ The only good thing in this hotel is the great view on the bay of Deshaies.

- The habitation needs refurbishment and everything is very dirty and in a miserable state (see the attached photos).

- The toilet, shower and kitchen are a big mess and cockroaches run around everywhere.

- The orange juice you get in the morning is rotten and already turns from yellow to brown.

- The pools are very dirty and the water is not clear.

- When you complain about the situation, the staff is only laughing and reminds you, that you have paid in advance.

- At the weekends the habitation in completely occupied by young people from Pointe a Pitre who are attracted by the private pools. They make party all the night with a lot of noise and alcohol.

- The habitations are very unsafe: On the last day someone of the staff (the person had a key to open our locked door) entered our bungalow during our absence for searching and grubbing our luggage for money. Good luck, we had all our important things like cameras, money, tickets, passports with us.

We had a look at some other bungalows in the resort, but they all were in the same bad state.

Guadeloupe is a really beautiful island, but don’t go to this hotel if you want a good time there.
In case you decide to visit this hotel, make sure you have a mosquito tent with you. You also need a car, as the 2km distance to Deshaies town are a very steep and winding road.

Karl from Germany.

“pretty accommodation in tropical environment”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2006

We stayed at the "Domaine de la Pointe Batterie" in December 2006 for 2 weeks. We had a studio for 2 persons, with a comfortable bedroom, a simple but nice bathroom and little kitchenette on the terrace.
The view from the terrace into the little bay of Deshaies is beautiful, so make sure to get one of the upper bungalows (above the lobby).
The bungalows and studios are surrounded by tropical plants and flowers. Deshaies is only a 2 min drive or a 10 min walk away. The friendly town has all the essential shops (supermarket, bakeries, internet cafe) and is one of the most beautiful villages on Basse Terre.
After sunset the choir of little whistling frogs starts with its nightly concert, so if you have a light sleep you'd better bring some earplugs with you. After 2 nights you get used to it and hardly notice the sound.
We had only two negative experiences: For two days we had no electricity and no warm water. But even the cold water has at least 20°C, and a dinner with candle lights can also be a romantic experience.
We can recommend the Domain de la Pointe Batterie and would stay there again.
